the mp4 files i have been creating contain divx5 encoded mpeg4 video (cq vbr) and nero encoded aac audio (2ch lc vbr). i have tried muxing using mpeg4ip tools and with the 3ivx ds muxer in graphedit. either way, the files will not play correctly in quicktime 6 or realplayer 10 or divx player.
anyone know what im doing wrong?

1) dont mux divx5 streams with b-frames by using mpeg4ip tools
only use mp4box or 3ivx for these
read the mp4 faq to get to know more about this
2) if you would have used search or read the faq you would have known that quicktime only supports simple profile mpeg-4 streams (which excludes b-frames, qpel and gmc), i assume realplayer too (unless real updated their plugin) and divxplayer is simply a bunch of crap (i doubt it correctly handles .mp4 files at all)

yes, b-frames was the culprit. thanks for your help. i re-encoded using no b-frames, no gmc and no qpel and i muxed with 3ivx again and it works perfectly now in real and quicktime.

I guess they had to include this implementation because their old DivX5.0.2 codec could generate them ;) And you know how keen DXN are at maintaining backwards compatibility
Cheers
