I was backing up 'neon genesis evangelion' disc one out of the eight-disc collection. I ripped it with dvd decryptor, then compressed it with dr. divx (I'm on the free trial because gordion knot is too confusing), but the audio and video are not synchronized. Can anyone help me?

please, please, use autoGK! it's just as simple as Dr.Divx and does not nearly produce so much problems...
anyway, how exactly did you rip the disk with dvddecrypter? to avoid sync issues you should rip in IFO mode!

www.autogk.net
It comes with a nice tutorial, and, in addition, Doom9 has a tutorial (with links) as well.

Is there an avi video file editor that will let me change the audio track in relation to the video track, then save it as a new avi file of the same size? I downloaded avisynth, but I can't get it to work.

Hi-
Yes there is. What do you want to do, adjust the audio to get it back in synch? Then VDubMod is probably what you want:

I downloaded virtual dub mod as was suggested by people here, but I can't figure out how to change the position of the sound track in relation to the video (specifically, I want to move it two seconds forwards). Please help!

open VDMod, load the avi file.
Go to: streams/stream list
Right click on the audio track, from popup list select interleaving.
You see 'Delay audio track by'. Set the value -2000.
That's all.

And don't forget to set Video to Direct Stream Copy.
You should have followed up in your original thread about this, rather than create a new one.
