After registering to these forums, i had to wait the greusome 5 day wait period before posting a new thread on these sites, which i tottaly disliked alot. Eagerly waiting to try out my new dvd burner, i wasnt surprised that this new hardware would require some great deal of knowledge before perfomring any burning task. Unfortunatly ignorrence led me to the fact that all i had to do was pop the dvd in the drive and windows would prompt me to burn a dvd and done and done. And Before no time I'd be watching my pc video files on my tv soon........how wrong i was....ok ok Alright lets get to the questions....as stated before im new to the burning scene and i just bought the NEC ND2510A Dual Layer 8X DVD/RW and bought a 10 pack fujifilm dvd+R (up to 4x)and nero oem software came with it. Any use of technical terms with defenitions would help out alot!

First Question
I wanna burn my .avi files to a dvd disc with its original quality and with a menu screen that can run on all dvd players. How do i perform this task and what program(s) do i use to get the best results?

Seconed Question
I also want to burn my .ogg/.ogm files (witch contain subtitles) to a dvd disc with original quality and with a menu screen that can run on all dvds. How do i perform this task and what program(s) do i use to get the best results?

Third Question
I want to create back ups of my DVD collection that have the original quality. I understand that a normal dvd contains 8 gig of data. Will i be able to burn only the neccessery video files on a 4.7 gig dvd. If yes, How do i perform this task and what program(s) do i use to get the best results?

Thankyou for reading my post!
And all your answers will be greatly appriciated!

Hello and welcome to the forum-

So, during your 5 day waiting period (which you "tottaly disliked alot"), did you even bother searching this site to find the DVD Backup Guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm)?

I appologize for my horribal spelling and grammer skills.

Yep, pretty bad alright. I hope English isn't your first language.

since dvd2svcd has its own sections in this forum thats a good place to start. should be plenty of people able to help you with any problems you encounter.

you said you would like a menu for example. then you need not only the video but a program to set the menu and its buttons and what they will do when pressed etc etc etc. thats authoring.

And Yes english is my seconed language!

In that case I apologize. I was afraid you might be a product of the American school system.

in the 5 days waiting period you must have also forgotten the set of rules you agreed to abide to when signing up to this forum!

here (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) you can read them again, pls familiarize yourself with them, as you'll tend to get in trouble if not knowing them! ;)

in your case, especially rules 1, 2, 9 and 12 come to my mind, each of them you violated with your initial post! not the best possible first impression, i have to say!

to your 3rd question: for main movie only backups (leading to least compression) i would suggest DVDshrink for a start. guides can be found on doom9.org!

also i would suggest you reading the dvd basics section (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm) over at doom9, to get you started on what those strange files on a dvd are and what to do with them :) along with a lot of other necessary information to get you started

oh and maybe you'd like to take a look at IEspell (http://www.iespell.com) - i guess the name explains what it's useful for ;)

hey, i found that nero works well with all that you want to do. there are all those options to creat chapters/titles ect. to backup your dvd's i use dvd shrink(any 1 after ver 3 is good....burns automatically with nero. you can choose if you want to back up the whole dvd with special features, or just the movie. when you want to do the full movie, rember that you will be compressing the movie so some quality loss is ineventable. (not to worry i cant really tell and im very anel about the final product)it has a very user friendly interface, and usually takes undre an hour to back up your dvd.
you can find dvd shrink here

http://www.dvdshrink.org/

i hope this helps you and just remember have fun.

Answer to the second Question:

I wrote a guide for doing OGM TO MPEG. It is hosted on the german doom9 mirror. I wrote it under my old alias Avalon: OGM -> AVI/MPEG Guide (german) (http://german.doom9.org/extern_guides/ogm2am/start.htm) If You don't understand german write me a PM. Maybe I find time to translate my guide into english, wich is also my second language.

thnx nycemsmedic and Amnon82 for the help!

Killingspree, always come off to newcomers on this website like their dumasses? for a mod not the best possible first impression, i have to say!

ok i get it I already read the rules and dvdbasics since manono reminded me about the 5 day waiting period. i know newbie forum mod can be a pain, but thats what you signed up for. So please try not to blindly insult newcomers to this site.

I suggest you re-read the rules, apparently you didn't fully comprehend R4.
