what color settings to use in vdub for cable caps?

what color settings do i use in the in vdubsync to get the same colors that cable caps use. i cap toons and the colors get washed out a bit when i cap.

i use picvideompjpeg compressor to cap.
i read the tuts and still cant find a suitable answer for this.

Well, I can tell you this much. PICVideo v2 had a bug in the way it converts YUY2 to RGB, and the result was washed out colors. There was a discussion of the problem here (http://neuron2.net/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=288).

PICVideo v3 (http://www.pegasusimaging.com/mjpeg3newfeatures.htm) fixes the bug.

i guess i should have reworded that.

what i meant was, on television a regular cable signal looks nice and vibrant. what settings should my cap card be set at so when i watch cable on it, it looks the same. when watching without capping, it looks washed out. so it looks washed when capped. the colorspace in picvideo is easy to fix i'm not worried about that.

Unfortunately, you'll probably just have to use your eyes and play with the capture card's controls. If your card has a "saturation" control, that may help. Boosting the contrast may help too.

If not, you can still try fixing it after the fact. Donald Graft has a wonderful VirtualDub filter called Hue/Saturation/Intensity (http://neuron2.net/hue.html). Highly recommended!

Tv looks 'vibrant' because color is adjusted (saturation, hue, contrast, brightness).

As fcc stated, you can set color in vdub with vdub->video->source->device_settings. Many have "Auto" and "Default" settings (not all have "auto").

The "auto" settings usually work okay for me, but certain channels still look very bland. In this case, I start tweaking color in avisynth via:

Tweak(0,1.1,-10,1.1) #hue,sat,brgt,cont (see avisynth doc)

Alternatively, you might use vdub hvs/brightness filters.
