Hi mates,

Recently I’ve bough a Divx DVD player, a Philips LX3900.

I’m very pleased with this hardware. It has good sound and image quality and plays all my Divx movies, even those converted with High Definition profile.

The problems start with Xvid. Some movies are played as good as Divx, but in some cases the frame rate is not smooth. I’ve seen many posts here saying about bad compatibility with some Xvid features.

So my question is: Can I convert a movie from Xvid to Divx and keep the good quality? Has anyone done it? and is the processes similar to DVD to Divx using GordianKnot?

Any advice about this will be welcome.

Thanks for your help,

Cheers, Tony

a) yes you can convert divx to xvid, but you will see a considerable quality loss...

b) you can do it with gordianknot

c) so go, try it out, and see if you are satisfied with the quality, but if you want equal quality you should rip the dvd again!

Wouldn't it also be possible to simply use VirtualDub, direct copying the audio and encoding the video in DivX? I'm not sure though if its possible to use Fast Processing, it's been awhile since I've actually encoded anything.

jup, it's definitely possible, but you would have to calculate the bitrate manually and therefore the chance of producing an oversized (or maybe undersized) video caused by overhead is rather big...
