I have an annoying little problem that just started this week. When using Gordian Knot to encode avis, I occasionally use the preview option before hitting "Save & Encode", which plays the avs file in Media Player (very useful for making sure it ain't choppy). However, all of a sudden it no longer works! Instead, WMP will open, the screen will shrink to nothing, and my resource meter shoots to 100% (I have 512Mb RAM, with nothing running at the time, so that's not the issue).

Also, I can no longer play large video captures in Media Player Classic or even WMP (same error occurs). 1Gb vob files play fine, but a 7Gb raw avi file won't work at all (and I know that I've opened raw avi files larger than 80Gb in the past!).

The 7Gb avi does play in PowerDVD, though, but that program is so bulky that I only ever use it for DVDs anyways... I've made no changes to my system, and have restarted it a number of times in the last week. Anyone have any suggestions?

Chris

Does the I've made no changes to my system mean that you havent installed any software either? None at all?
And just to clarify things:
1)can you play .avs at all? ie. the test avs scripts included with avisynth?
2) how big files still work?
3) can you play small video captures?
4) can you open the same big capture files in VirtualDub?
5) try using a non-DirectShow based player like VLC, if this works, then it might be a problem with DirectShow
