Using:

Default settings on DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0 ISO read, ISO write
Pioneer DVR-108 1.10 Firmware
VERBATIM Disks
4x speed selected

I was able to make succesful Dual Layer burns of 2 movies. They play perfect , in the burner, an old Memorex burner i have, and my magnavox home player. I made 2 earlier attempts with RITEK disks. DO NOT use those if u own the DVR-108. I tried 2 times and it didnt work. At 2.4x speed. They are messed up at the layer break.

Maybe you could make a sticky telling people not to use the RITEK disks with the DVR-108, at least with DVD Decrypter they dont work.

The RITEK look like this:

I agree, the Ritek discs screw up at the layer change with major blocking and scrambling, the Verb's did not.

However, the Verbs did screw (it just locked the player up) up if I fast forwarded across the layer change on my Samsung HD935 and my Toshiba standalones (the burner played them fine). Playing across the layer change on these players was fine.

Khrondor: That's why NEC was more intelligent and put Ritek DL media on a black list in the firmware...

Hi guys. Looking forward to more reviews on DL burning. There's one thing i'm curious about...since I dont' have a DL burner or haven't tried burning..but...how do you designate the files so that the same group of files from the same layer end of getting burnt onto the same layer?

For example, let's say you ripped your DVD files onto your HDD. You should have vob files 1,2,3 (which are on the first layer), 4, 5,6 (which are on the second layer).

What do the burning programs do to ensure that files 1,2,3 are on the same layer vs. say...1, 6,2.

If you burned a DVD the way I just described, the DVD player would have to jump back layers frequently and that would make a mess.

DVDDecrypter takes care of all this for you if you just rip to a full ISO and burn back to DL.

Ya I'll agree on that, I had to call Pioneer to find out that the Verbatim was the only media that they supported. The Ritek media was also a "test" version I think. I have heard now there is new dye and it will work with the 108, has anyone tried this?

Hello Khrondor,

I've read some threads from people who had problems using Pioneer 108 and Decrypter with Iso mode. They said that decrypter didn't change the booktype from dvd+rl to dvd-rom, what is bad in terms of compliance with players.

Is that right? Or may be they loaded the iso file instead the mdf file and that's why they had that problem?

Thanks in advance.

Can't be. The Pioneer A08 always writes DVD-ROM booktype for DVD+R DL, and that behaviour can't be changed
