View Full Version : AVI2DVD: I de-interlaced, but it's still interlaced.

I've been having a really hard time getting this one video converted properly, and I'm hoping the gurus here will have some pointers for me. I'm trying to convert a Divx AVI file to a DVD, seems fairly straightforward....
When I convert the file, my output DVD has horizontal lines during high-motion areas on the screen (these lines are not present on the source video). The lines are visible on my standalone player and on my PC. Ok, so at first I thought this was an interlacing issue. But now I've tried every possible resize filter, and every possible de-interlace setting, as well as no de-interlacing at all.
Every time, I get the same problem on my output file. I've attached a screeshot of the problem...is this an interlacing issue? Or is there something else casuing this? I've done many of these conversions before, but had no problems of this type.
I'm using AVI2DVD 1.2.2 Build 3, encoder: CCE 2.67.00.23 (eclCCE)

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
Not a bad effort, but check the link from the bottom of the rules page for tips on the ideal first post.
Most importantly...:logfile:
Also, what is the input resolution of your AVI, and the framerate?
VDubMod will easily find this information.
Cheers :)

Thanks for the quick reply..actually I read through that FAQ but I've been so overloaded with info here that I must have forgot some details..
The input avi is Divx 5, 640x336, 29.97fps, 1134 kb/s. My specs are P4, 3.2G, 1gb DDR, WinXP Pro. I've looked through my A2D logfiles and they indicate that everything has completed without errors. I'd be happy to post the logfile here...but I've got so many logfiles, from so many different attempts, I wouldn't know which one to post. If there is a specific one you'd like to see, let me know and I'll post it ASAP. Thanks again.

Hi chodesweat,
Just post the logfile of a complete run. dvd2svcd_log.txt
I've had a similar problem with Odisea 2010, and I never found the reason.... In fact the distance in lines between the "interlaced artifacts" are too high to be a problem related with interlaced material.
In my case, I "solved" my problem (not true, simply I avoided it), changing the resizing values. Seems there was something which was confusing the resizer...

Ok, sure, here's my most recent logfile. I tried to encode it again today and I still got the same result.. It would be great if I could get to the bottom of this.

Sorry, I have no idea, but ...
Does your AviSynth_Script_file.avs play well or does it show the artifacts?

I know, it's really strange. It only happens with this one file. Yes, when I play the avisynth file it still shows the lines. I seem to get the same results no matter what...I've even tried using TMPGenc instead of CCE but the result is the same. Is there an alternative to using AviSynth? I'm thinking maybe Avisynth is the problem here, since the avs file shows the distortions as well.

Ah! Seems it is the same problem I had... Try changing the resize parameters. Just for testing (the image will be distorted), comment the lines (adding the '#' character at the beginning):
#LanczosResize(720,448)
#AddBorders(0,16,0,16)
in your avisynth script and try again in WMP.

Thanks for the quick replies here, I really appreciate it. Well I commented out those two lines and played the file back but the lines are still there. Is that how you got yours to work? I'm going to see if I can find an alternative to Avisynth and see if that makes any difference for me.

Is that how you got yours to work? Yes, but as I said, I still do not know why it worked. BTW, in my case, I was encoding from a DVD, so the input was different, although from the resizer point of view probably it is the same.
