hey,
just trying out the dvd to divx process with auto gordon knot and i have a few questions.

the primary question is why are the final audio levels on the avi so low? i have to crank my system as lowd as posible just to hear it.

and, i'm curious why in the "select output size" menu you can only select a 2gig file size to fit on a dvd-r instead of a 4 gig file size.
i even tried to ender 4gigs as my custom size but the final avi still came out around 2 gigs.

thanks for spreading the knowledge.
peace.

First question - if the audio is AC3 then you have to get AC3filter and raise the levels there (as it is intact from DVD and not normalized).

Second - the movie may be compressible enough to not being able to reach large size (4Gb is definitely too high for most clean movie material we have today). You will see warning in the logs...

If you're using mp3 for audio, I use MP3 Gain to boost the levels. Works a charm.

i am using encoded these files with 6 channel ac3 sound.

i have ac3filter and i tried boosting the levels but it did not work.
can you give me more info or directions?

i've boosted almost everything i can see possible.

i've tried this with ac3filter and also in windows media player 10, under the dvd tab in options there's an advanced button which brings up the same settings window as ac3filter has, they seem to be different programs.

thanks.

Hi-

Didn't work? Have you tried going to the lower left of the main screen of the AC3 Filter and changing the default Preset to Loud?

However, I have seen movies where there might be a loud explosion or some gunshots, or some crescendo of music, and that screws up the audio for the whole rest of the movie, so you have to turn the dialog up. Is your problem for one movie in particular, or for all of them?

i have tried that loud preset.

this low audio problem is effecting all the movies i've made with auto gordon knot.

That's strange. I've seen a lot of people complain about initial low AC3 audio levels, but none after fooling with the config settings of the AC3 Filter.

So, is your AC3 Filter up-to-date:

Have you tried with a different player? If all you're using is WMP to test, I would certainly try a real player first. No, not RealPlayer, but one of the good ones, such as BS Player, Media Player Classic, Zoom Player, VLC Media Player. Doom9 has a bunch:

Have you tried raising the volume levels, not in the AC3 Filter, but in the player or your sound card?

Have you made other movies outside of AutoGK, like with GKnot, or by manual encoding, and not had the problem? Have you seen normal volume levels when watching movies with AC3 encoded by someone else? What happens when you play the AC3 audio by itself (not muxed with the video)? Same thing? What happens when you play the DVD? Louder? The reason I ask is that the AC3 as given to you by AutoGK is exactly the same as on the DVD. It's absolutely untouched.

Lemme see if the AC3 FAQ can shed some light on this... Well, I think you've tried all the low volume tips in Q 11. But it does have some other suggestions (including remuxing in AVIMuxGUI) which may or may not help:
