hi
i'm about to convert my ogms to mkv so i can mux in idx/sub subtitles: is there any loss of quality (or anything else) when demuxing ogm -> avi and ogg, and, just in case, is there any idx/sub support coming for ogm in the (near) future? i have tried using graphedit with the directvobsub filters instead of oggmux but i cannot get a playable file.
thanks!

No loss in quality, youll probably lose some overhead though :) and gain a whole lot of flexibility. You can also convert directly to MKV with VirtualDubMod, but youd still have to mux the subtitles in later.

or you could just directly add the ogm and subs to MMG.

As you may already know, you can load IDX+SUB as softsubs on OGM if you don't mind having them (your idx+sub files) as external files. If you have foo.ogm foo.idx and foo.sub in the same folder and if you play foo.ogm, directVobsub and/or MPC will autoload idx+sub.
If you want to embed those subs in OGM, you'll have to convert them into SRT by OCRing. Not a comfortable work, but text subs would be much compact, and the quality is much better than image subs like idx+sub.
You can mux IDX+SUB if you use MKV, but plz note that once you do that you cannot demux them from MKV atm. You might want to save your IDX+SUB files separately just in case.
