Replaced a VOB, but no sound!

I'm stuck - been trying for days to figure out IFOedit, PGCEdit and VOBblanker with no luck.

All I want to do is to replace one VOB with another - I can't make it work!

The original VOB is 16:9, 6 channel sound.

The replacement VOB is 4:3, 2 channel sound.

VOBblanker succesfully altered the aspect ratio, and the new VOB plays when I click on the menu link for the old one, but NO SOUND!

Just can't get the sound to play. Tried changing the sound from 6 channel to 2 channel in both PGCEdit and IFOedit with no luck.

What do I have to do? I need kind of a step by step guide, I guess.

Open up your 4:3 VOB in VobEdit. If you have any audio packs on the left, you should see something like this.
[AC3-Audio Pack] 0x8?
What do you have?

Also, post your IfoEdit's VTS Overview of the IFO of the VOB you replaced.

There are a number of audio packs - they all read as follows in VOBEdit:

0x84 means that this was originally configured to be a 5th Dolby Surround audio. I assume this is a Director's commentary audio.

When you replaced your VOB, it wasn't configured to have 5 audios in your original IFO.

What we will do is configure your IFOs so that you do have 5 audios. By the way, I'm doing this by theory and I hope it works.

3. Double click on this line and change it to 5

4. Now go down to

[00000214] Aud_3: audio attributes

Double-click on this to see it’s attributes. Assuming that your audio in your new VOB is English, this is exactly what we need to configure your Aud_5.

and configure it like Aud_3’s attributes. OK to set.

6. Now go to / VTS_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1. Scroll down to

7. The maximum of audio streams a DVD can have is 8. Here's the order of values for them. 33792 is want we need to be concerned with here.

1st: 32768 (0x80)
2nd: 33024 (0x81)
3rd: 33280 (0x82)
4th: 33536 (0x83)
5th: 33792 (0x84)
6th: 34048 (0x85)
7th: 34304 (0x86)
8th: 34560 (0x87)

Double-click on line and input a value of 33792. OK to set. So now you should have this.

Audio stream 5 uses stream nr.: 4

8. Now, what I want you to do is double click on each of these and change their values to 0 (zero).

Audio 5: English (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC (ID: 0x84)
Notice that you have (ID: 0x84) to match what was in your VOB?

11. We need to update our VMG, so go to VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMG_VTS_ATRT. Scroll down to your VTS in question and find this line.

VTS_2: Number of audio streams in Title (VTSTT_VOBS) 3

12. Double-click on line and change its value to 5 to reflect the VTS we have edited. OK to set.

Note: Since it seems you are retaining menus, if you select any of your three language buttons, you'll only hear the singe audio track that your new VOB has.

I just happen to figure it out quicker and I really suprised myself by doing really good virtual troubleshooting without tapping into the original IFOs. I guess it goes with experience. ;) There are lots of information here at Doom9's forum on DVD structure so search for them. The more you work with IFOs, the better you'll get. You have to want to learn. Hopefully, you'll start giving back what you learn. :)

If possible, I have another method which has your DVD having only one configured audio instead of 5. Can you test it for me?

This method worked, too.

I don't see the second line below when I do it:

Audio stream 1 uses stream nr.: 4

But the DVD plays fine.
