anyone know of a good program that can convert
avi - to - dvd
ive tried with avitodvd tmpgenc
and they all seem to go wrong like the audio will be really off track
and the picture quality is different!!

also is there any tools that allow me to convert avi to vob from straight
as all i seem to be able to do is convert to mpg then mpg to vob
or anyway i can burn an avi straight to dvd

please help

Well Tmpegenc is probably your best bet. Or you could use CCE and a few other programs to encode. To adjust the asynch audio you could try vdub and see if that doesnt cure things (using the interleaving and audio delay options). And no there is no way to go directly from avi to vob. You have to burn a compliant mpeg 2 stream then author that with an authoring program to get compliant dvd files to burn. And as far as the video quality being different that is to be expected... your doing a pretty major video reconstruction job on the movie.... you arent going to get really great quality going from avi to vob. unless you have a really really really good avi source video.
