View Full Version : Playing Matroska in MPC - Subtitles, Nested Chapters, Seeking

Hi,

Muxed a rv10 video (encoded with AutoRV10) with ogg soundtrack and .srt subtitles into a matroska file with mmg GUI (version 0.9.5). I then tried to play this file in MPC (6.4.8.2 - OT: been a while since an update, huh?).

Seeking: Using MPc, I can't seem to seek properly inside the file. The counter in the bottom right always shows 00:00/00:00, and the slider is permanetly stuck on the right position. If you try to drag it anywhere, the movie just restarts from thebeginning.

Subtitles: Subtitles play fine, and the vobsub icon shows in the system menu. Just a small issue - the subtitle menu under Play menu is grayed out, and there doesn't seem to be any way to control/turn off subtitles inside MPC (If I remember, right, I could do it before).

Nested Chapters: Using mmg, I made nested chapters (ie Episode 1, Episdoe 2 etc, and within each episode further subdivision). However, in MPC, the Navigate - Jump to option is completely disabled, and there doesn't appear to be any way of viewing or navigating through the chapters. (If MPC doens't supported nested chapters, that's cool - I'd be happpy just to get basic chapter navigation working)

In advance, thanks for your help :D (and kudos to Sirber, Dark_Cracker and Karl etc. for their great work)

You might want to try disabling the built in MKV splitter and using Gabest's latest.

did you install latest matroska packs (1.0.3) and disable the internal matroska splitter in MPC?

you should be able to acces vobsub through the "filters" menu in the video list. the subtitle menu will only be accesible when using the internal subtitle filter of MPC i thnk.

Hi,

Yes, latest version of MPP installed (1.0.3). Following your advice, disabling the internal Matroska splitter (View - Options - Filters - Unselect MAtroska Splitter) did the trick - I can now seek :D w00t! Just curious, is this a known issue in MPC? (Is is a bug in the internal Matroska filter? Any chance of a release of MPC that fixes it?)

Anyway, one down two to go.

stephanV: how do you activate the internal subtitle filter in MPC?

Well, thanks for the fast response guys, matroska if my format of choice *grin.

bye,
Victor

PS: Slightly OT, but does anybody know how good the matroska splitter is at handling corrupted files? (say the file size didn't match, would it still play

It is known yes and since agbest doesnt seem to work on MPC or his splitters anymore there probably is little chance...

No i dont... perhaps Dvobsub overrides it? it is still accesible though.. so only a minor point i think no?

choose the VMR7/9 renderless Renderer in the options, the subtitles will play like with vobsub (which you want to desactivate in this case ;))

for corrupted file, iirc it just jump over the corrupted frames.

Hi,

bill_baroud: Followed your advice (View - Options - Playback, Output - VMR9), and it works great (albeit a bit laggy, don't know why). And yes, I should have disabled Vobsub first, because it played over the top of the vobsub ones (*grin, you can't disable vobsub until the movie starts playing, is this a bug? anyway, just did it from sys-tray vobsub icon.).

Seeking works great, although I'm not quite sure how to test how well MPC plays back corrupted files - the thought of taking sandpaper to a couple of cds and trying to play them comes to mind :D.

Last one: Does MPC support nested chapters? (I muxed in nestd chapters, but chapter menu is grayed out).

Finally, is there any way to apply these settings (disable vobsub, enable VMR9, disable internal Matroska splitter) from a .reg file, or somehow patch MPC to default to them?

Thanks,
Victor
