View Full Version : Smartbob give wrong fps..!?!?!

I'm trying to encode a PAL 25fps interlaced DVD and wanted to use Smartbob for deinterlacing. (Gordian Knot 0.32.0 beta)

Now my problem: when I use Smartbob, I get 50fps (!) in the resulting avi. When I step through the avi, 2 frames always show the same picture, just with a little different quality (second picture looks smoother/better).
When I use FieldDeinterlace, I get a 25fps avi as expected.

But I'd rather use Smartbob for deinterlacing!
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug, or what? :)
Comments would be highly appreciated.

Read the Manual of Smartbob!

Thanks!
At least you didn't write "RTFM!" ;)
And after searching explicitly for _that_ manual, I even managed to find it somewhere in the GKnot folder. That, in fact, explains a lot.

I think there should be a little warning in the GKnot GUI about that default "double framerate" setting. All other deinterlacers don't do that, only Smartbob. So if the GKnot programmers want to avoid this question being asked in this forum over and over again, there should be a "doubles framerate!" comment somewhere.
Just my 2 cents, though....

Right, that's because i not wrote "RTFM" ;)

this is actually a bug, since I believe in 0.28.8 mode=0 of DGBob was used...

*Edit* yep, checked the source for 0.28.8 and indeed I was right.

Hi-

Personally I think you should dump DGBob altogether. Then use Leak's version of KernelDeint. Keep the usual settings for the regular KernelDeint. But if you want doublerate deinterlacing, as some people do, then in Save And Encode call it Doublerate Deinterlace (or whatever you think best), and in the .avs you'll have:

KernelBob(Order=1)

Doublerate deinterlacing is required for such filters as RePAL and SmartDecimate, and it may make it easier for people to set up afterwards. But it's up to you to decide if you want to include Doublerate deinterlacing at all.

Wow! I'm sooooooo cool! I really found a bug!
;)

But at least this bug got me started editing the .avs manually.
So many parameters to change and play with.... *me smiles like a little boy*
