cool, you will have one more option 13 (more complicated) in 1.57 :)
I'll put this on my website then
P.S. you can have Audio PID 2 in option 7 (I forgot to write that into hidden_option.txt)
P.P.S. Does it take a directory as a parameter? If yes, I can launch it from AutoGK directly with directory as a parameter.

I will add that soon

great!
also PIDs are usually 2-4 digi-numbers, so you might wanna expand edit boxes a little bit to allow up to 4 numbers to fit in.
P.S. 1.57 is up

Hello,
It looks nice and seems quite useful.
I'd like to suggest a "philosophy change" with respect to Hidden Options.exe. It would be really nice if the form showed if some of those hidden files are already in place. In other words, to read the hidden files on the application start, and to create/destroy the files "live", when checkbox are checked/unchecked.
I know, I know, that's quite a bit of work. But is how I would do it if I had the spare time I don't have. ;)
And of course, thanks for the assistant.

thanks :)

I will probably look into this sometime in the future. The problem is, that I won't learn anything about programming at school this year, and I will have to learn some things for that first. Maybe when I have holidays I will add that, because I really like the idea ;)
In other words, to read the hidden files on the application start, and to create/destroy the files "live", when checkbox are checked/unchecked.
It is possible to do this, but I would have to change a lot of code for that. :( Don't count on me to do this...
I know, I know, that's quite a bit of work.
As I said above. My aim now is to fix some things and add the new Hidden Option introduced in 1.57 (I already have an idea how to do this).
edit: I just wanted to add something to the idea of creating/deleting the files live. The way it is now, I think is easier for me to add new options, when len0x adds new hidden options to autogk.

A bit of heads up: don't spend too much time on the tool yet coz after stable release I'm gonna scrap all the hidden files options into one ini file (dunno when exactly though). So tool will have to be rewritten according to that...

ok good to know, but i will finish the program as it is right now. i don't know when i will have the time to do a bigger rewrite though.

new version uploaded. changelog, new downloadlink and new screenshot see first post. please report all bugs and glitches you can find!
on my todo-list for 1.1final is:
-cleanup sourcecode (it's a mess right now) and with that the .exe file will get some kb smaller, as a lot of the code of the old-style assistant is still present

FYI new option will be in the 1.60 final:
===============
14) Resizes and places burnt-in subs properly in resulting AVI, so no more squashed subs or subs that a too high.
Works only for burn-in subs and only for bottom subs (sometimes you have subs in the upper part of the picture, those ones will be displayed incorrectly if this option is used). This file has to be in AutoGK home dir unlike all others!
.adjustsubs

you will probably see this option in my programm tomorrow!

Few bugs:
- upon start up you have to click twice on "browse" to get dir selector to appear (first time doesn't do anything...)
- 9) should be "Force ITU" not "For ITU" :)
Suggestions:
- remove version of AutoGK from caption of the window as it may confuse users that may think it only works for that version.
- rename readme.txt in the archive to AutoGK_Assistant.txt so that if users unpack it to AutoGK folder they still see what come from where.

I cannot reproduce this issue. Anybody else experiencing this problem also?

It is weird, but that browse issue happens only when I launch it from AutoGK, not standalone... (application loses focus and tries to show dialog probably, but nothing happens first time)

Indeed. I also don't have this issue if I use commandline to set path

you can expect a new version this evening. the new version will check if hidden option files are present and if so, it will check the boxes of the ones that exist :)

I was faster than I expected so here you go. Version 1.1 RC1 is out. Details see first post. If no bugs are found in this version I'll make it final next weekend. :)

Great stuff! The only feature missing is for options that write contents for hidden files to read them if they exist :) (I mean to populate GUI with values from hidden files, not only check options)
P.S. I launched assistant different from AutoGK and got rid of that dir browser problem I had.

Another sugestion:
in the credits section have more FPS choices:
- 59.940
- 29.970
- 23.976
- 50.000
- 25.000
Coz transport streams or other mpeg files may have that input FPS.

i will try to add that soon, i did not findy any time this weekend because of rl ;)

I've noticed that the programs that produce ".credits" calculate the frame number assuming 29.970fps instead of 29.997fps (as AutoGordianKnot detects) for NTSC movies. Why is that? When I use 29.970, I get the wrong point in the movie. When I do my own calculation with 29.997fps it works like a charm. Just wondering. Thanks in advance.
Black0ut
27th September 2004, 05:30
I just took a look at the code and noticed, that it calculates with 29.976 what is wrong has to be 29.970, will be fixed later today. Never heared of 29.997fps though...waiting for lenox's comment on that...
edit: typo (it's early in the morning :o )
len0x
27th September 2004, 10:50
Well, you either have 29.970 or 23.976 for NTSC. No 29.997...
@dchandler
Can you post the logs where AutoGK detects 29.997 please?

I think that version is seriously broken... check out where the dot files are created (for me its root of the drive...)
Also adjustsubs, itu and kerneldeint are created in the current dir and it just happned that when launched from AutoGK I didn't set curent dir properly (so atm those options won't work from AutoGK), so its safer to get location of AutoGK home dir from registry...
Black0ut
27th September 2004, 17:32
I really cannot reproduce anything of this? for me ajustsubs, itu and kerneldeint get created in the same dir as the executable. I also did not change any code in the program besides starting frame calculation for credits
so its safer to get location of AutoGK home dir from registry...
Atm I don't know how to do this  (I'm using Borland Builder 5 C++)
len0x
27th September 2004, 17:42
Hm.. I can't reproduce it now as well...
Regarding registry keys:

I couldn't find it in the log file as you asked, but attached is a screen capture. I have encoded 40+ movies and they have all been 29.997fps. I asked a friend of mine and he says that's what he always sees too.... Weird.
len0x
27th September 2004, 18:55
Aha, sorry that was a typo (hardcoded value). AutoGK only determines real FPS during job runtime.
dchandler
27th September 2004, 19:10
To better explain, here is the procedure I use. I note when the credits start, let's say it is 1 hour, 32 minutes and 41 seconds into the movie. I then convert this to seconds = 5561. I then multiply by 29.997fps and round to the nearest whole number. That is the number I use in the '.credits' file - every time.
If I multiply by 29.970fps instead and use that number in the '.credits' file, my encoded movie will switch to black and white a few seconds too early, before the credits roll.
I then did a test. 29.997 - 29.970 = 0.027fps. Multiplying by the total number of seconds (5561) I get a difference of 150.147 frames, or about 5 seconds too early - exactly what I observed.
It may be coincidence, but 29.997 always works for me and my friend, while 29.970 has only made me come up short.
Any ideas? It is definately an interesting problem.

Wouldn't it be easier to use the directory where the application resides? Isn't it supposed to go in the same dir as AutoGK? ParamStr(0) (or whatever the equivalent is in BC) should do the trick...

Actually it is much easier...

I just updatet it to Version 1.1 final. Nothing has changed since RC2 for 2 reasons:
1: No negative feedback
2: No time
It's just because some people may think it is an RC, and no final version, so they don't use it.

Are you still around? AutoGK has more autocrop options now :)
Black0ut
5th January 2005, 01:02
Yes I am still around but honestly I have to say, that I am not interested in developing AutoGK Assistant any further :( , because I don't even use my own program and I also don't have much time at the moment. If anybody is interested in the sourcecode I can send it to him/her. It was written using Borland C++ Builder 5. I'm really sorry and I appreciate all those users of my program out there, which seem to be a lot according to the number of downloads...
len0x
5th January 2005, 11:46
I wouldn't mind having source code myself as I can easily compile c++builder projects in Delphi.
Black0ut
5th January 2005, 13:51
OK, I'll send it to you later, I just need some E-Mail adress to send it to, but the sourcecode really is a mess.

I think its time for assistant to be integrated into autogk, even if it is not developped anymore by anyone. new cropping options (and future preview video for cropping option?) should be present as well if anyone has the time to do it.
anyway thanks to blackout. i think i have never used autogk withut assistant or older hidden options tool.

Hey, len0x - been away and busy for a while.
The hidden options tool I did was in VB6. Probably not compatible with Delphi, but the source is pretty clean and fairly well commented, if you think it would be useful and want that let me know.
All of the I/O routines are pretty simple and straight forward. It could very easily be converted to write all of the options to one config file instead of individual control files.

Thanks, but its OK. VB is probably the only language I never programmed with :) And logic is very simple anyway (I migrated the GUI itself from AutoGK Assistant already).
