View Full Version : Is Nero the problem?

I wonder if anyone can help.
I recently got a new system with a DVD burner so decided to back up my collection.
I ripped using DVD Shrink but in some cases when the disc was slightly damaged I used DVD Decrypter.
I ripped around 10 movies to my HD then burnt using Nero. At first my cpu usage (while burning) was around 20% but after 5 or 6 burnings my cpu showed 100% usage and the back up was not always successful so as I was deleting from my hard drive as I burnt I though it may need defragging but it made no difference.

In the end I did a system restore which seemed to do the trick.
After going through this cycle 4 or 5 times all my system restore points disappeared and I now no longer have that option. I only seemed to get this high CPU usage when using Nero to start with but I eventually got it when ripping as well
When I bring up the task manager there doesn't seem to be any load on the CPU until I use Nero, Shrink or Decrypter.

I don't seem to be able to boot into safe mode either, when I press F8 to go into that option I get the page but neither my keyboard nor mouse will work and have to do switch off my pc using the main power button.
I have checked for spy ware using Ad aware and spybot.
I have checked for viruses using Mcafee.
System restore settings are as normal and turned on.
DMA is enabled.
Hard drive has been defragged.

For info my system has;
1GB DDR Ram
200GB HD
Athlon 3400 processor.

I would be grateful if anyone can help
Thanks
