Replacing Extras with Still Images

I am making a full disk backup and including the menus. But I am removing all the extra video clips by replacing it with still images.


1) Replacing with still images reduces the most space, right? Trying to make the main movie with higher meg size for better quality.


2) Is there other method to keep the main menu and only the movie while removing the extras?
Using the still image for the extra reduces size but some extras are 20-30 meg in size when replaced with still image.

Does you movie reside in its own Titleset (VTS)? If so, use PgcEdit (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/index.html) to blank out the other VTSs. Here's the guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=81112).

If not, use VOBBlanker (http://www.posunplugged.com/jsoto/). Look in VOBBlanker's Help > Contents > PGC procedures description > Blanking a program chain.

These free tools can help you on both your questions. I generally use them before doing any shrinking. There's also DVDReMake (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php) but it's not free though.

what image are you using to replace the video?

1GB normally compresses to 25-30mb when using a black image but if you use an actual image then it can be far higher than that as the default DVDShrink image would probably be 70-80mb per GB

so 4GB of extras should be around 100-110mb and as 2COOL mentions you can use the 2 free programs to delete complete Titlesets and maybe just use DVDShrink replace image on certain parts ;)
