VirtualDub 1.6.0 for DV

Maybe you have noticed this already: The new 1.6.0 version of VirtualDub supports DV, both type-1 and type-2!

That means, you can open, cut, filter and encode (e.g. to DivX / MP3) your DV files in VirtualDub alone. I don't say that this is meant to be a replacement for your favourite editing application (NLE), but it's a nice supplement.

The author, Avery Lee, calls the new version "experimental", but I didn't come across problems so far.

When opening a DV file in VDub 1.6, clicking File, File information, it is written "Sony DV codec" in Video stream, Decompressor. So it seems VDub isn't decompressing the video stream.

Does it attempt to decode the stream only if no vfw DV codec is installed ?

Direct stream copy appears to be broken and there are some problems with the new colorspaces too (conversions from rgb16 to yuv)

Could also be that the fourcc Sony DV uses is not recognised as DV.

It is not a video I encoded with Sony DV codec. It is the output of a capture made with a NLE application. I use the Sony DV codec almost always for decoding only.

I checked the fourcc: It is 'dvsd'. According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/archive/default.asp?url=/archive/en-us/directx9_c/directx/htm/dvvideosubtypes.asp , it is the proper FourCC code for 25 Mbps DV video stream.

Either VDub only attempts to decode the stream if no vfw DV codec is installed, or there might be a bug somewhere.
