Something Blocking PC From Capturing !! Maybe SP2????

This strange problem has been happening recently, every time i switch on my capture device (miglia directors cut) and open ANY capture program and press "start capture", the programs just freeze ! no matter what i do or how many times i try the same thing happens. The only thing i did recently on my pc was install SP2. Could this have messed up some settings somewhere?? maybe some firewire device settings or something?? any ideas anybody?

I have installed SP2 and capture fine, but I have heard of other people having problems after installing SP2. You might want to remove then reinstall your capture drivers. Have you tried to re-install your capture programs? You might also want to take a look at your audio and video codecs (in device manager, under sound video and game controllers) and make sure you still have the proper codecs installed.

You mentioned firewire settings. Are you talking capture as in transferring from video cam corder or are you talking capture from tv or vcr, etc?

The "capture device" i have is simply an analogue-to-digital video converter, it converts any analogue video into DV and connects to a computer via FireWire, so when you switch it on, the computer recognises it as a DV camera. Concerning these "capture drivers" you mentioned, what are they? where are they? how do i know if they are working properly? and how can i reinstall them if needed?

Also the audio and video codecs in device manager, there are many which are present, how do i know which codecs are necessary for DV capture?

And SP2, i found out, installs the new version of Windows Movie Maker, which should have all of the necessary files and drivers for DV capture, however that also freezes when i hit start capture.

Since your device is DV via FireWire, I've moved it to the DV forum...

(Those drivers mentioned are for PCI based A->D capture cards, which you're not using.)

If you leave your device off and fire up the computer then turn it on, does Win xp recgonize the device properly? I also take it that since it is a firewire device, there are no drivers that specifically came with it.

Have you visited Microsofts help page to see if they have any mention of a problem like this. If all else fails and as a last resort, you could try to uninstall SP2 and see if it works again.
