Hi guys!
I hope you can help me out here. I was planning on testing DVDRB with QuEnc 0.54.
But, how do I so prediction?
And, if I press "prepare" (in DVDRB) and then "encode" QuEnc starts up and begin the encode. But when I flip to the advanced settings I see that QuEnc uses 24 for GOP and 8 for DC precision... Is that how it should be? I'm rebuilding "Monster", the PAL version, so I would think QuEnc should use 12 for GOP and 10 for DC precision? Am I missing anything here?

Definitely not. I'll have to check tonight but I'm pretty sure DVD-RB should force the GOP to 12... precision stays at the default (not sure what that is) 8, 9, or 10 are all acceptable.
Not sure what you mean by "prediction?" -- DVD-RB does the size prediction automatically.

Thanks for your help jdobbs. Looking forward to your report tonight ;) .

Hi, I just gave it a test run then, and I too experienced audioslave's problem - mainly because the GOP was set at 24 before opening DVD-RB, which probably means it doesn't force it to 12 after all. Looks like DVD-RB just uses the previous settings, without altering them.
@audioslave
Try opening QuEnc 0.54 before opening DVD-RB, set the GOP to 12, and the DC precision to 10. After that, open DVD-RB and continue with the prepare/encode/rebuild processes.
Cheers.

Ok, I will try that. Thanks!

If the problem persists, put a post in the MPEG-2 Encoder forum as we tend to miss the QuEnc bugs brought up here. Thanks :)

Hmmm... I just looked at the QuEnc command line and I don't have anything on the command line that sets GOP size. That reminds me, where are the command line parameters documented? I know it's somewhere because I got the ones I use...

from command promt use "QuEnc.exe -?" (without quote of course). that will pop up a window with the command line options. the test file that comes with QuEnc called QuEnc_settings.txt explains some of the options in more detail aswell.
note that QuEnc lists -cmatrix and -nocmatrix but they are not used because i didnt change 2 lines. so -qlb and -noqlb are the relevant options for them.

Ahh... now I remember -- in fact I think I may have asked you the same question before...

Echoing what jdobbs just wrote in the v0.59 changelog I have to say I did a test with QuEnc v0.54 a few days ago and was impressed with the quality. I didn't examine it in detail, because it was a quick functional test, but on a casual look it was very good. It did have a good bitrate to work with, but I didn't have High Quality, Scene Detection, Trellis, or Custum Matrix on.
Speed was pretty good too. CCE goes at around 1.8x for me (low 40's in fps), QuEnc was hitting the high 30's. Last time I used QuEnc was v0.51 and the with everything turned on, including 'Extreme & Slow' I was getting around 10fps.
