Editing VOB file, recreating DVD

Hello All,

I am trying to edit part of DVD movie I own, then recreate the DVD for viewing purposes.

Here is what I have done so far.

1 - Backed up the purchased DVD to a local folder with DVD Shrink, version 3.2.
2 - Opened one of the VOB files with MPEG-VCR 3.14 and made the desired edits.
3 - Replaced the old VOB file (exact name) in the DVD backup folder with the new, modified VOB.

At this point, I can try to burn the DVD with Nero, but it will complain "dvd video files reallocation failed". If I let the DVD be created anyway, the movie will hang when the modified VOB is reached.

If I try to reopen the DVD with Shrink, I will get this:

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue"
"Failed to open file 'C:\DVDS\.....VTS_01_3.VOB"

I have tried using InfoEdit 0.95 to recreate the VOB files, but it does not seem to fix the problem.

The VOB in question opens and runs fine with any MPEG player, and will also play correctly in WinDVD and PowerDVD.

I am out of ideas at this poing.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

you can't simply edit one of the vob files from a vts set - no way! you'll have to at least demux the vobs into a m2v stream and a couple of audiostreams, than make the changes in you editing software, then remux the video and reauthor the dvd...

OK. Are there HOWTOs available for the following items?:

- Demux the VOBs into a m2v stream and a couple of audio streams
- Remux the videos and reauthor the the DVD

I do not know where to start on this...

for demuxing u can use dvddecrypter or vobedit. Their use is pretty straightforward, but their respective guides should guide u through should any problem arises.

For remuxing back u can use any dvd authoring prog such as dvdlab, dvd architect etc. If u can use Maestro its even better.

So, do I have to demux the entire DVD (all VOBs), then remux the entire set? Or can I focus on the one modified VOB file?

Geez - it sounds like this will be a royal pain in arse!

I was expecting/hoping there would be a more simple process.

Which DVD authoring program is the easiest and fastest?
