Doing DVD 2 DVD backup through D2S encoding as Anamorphic 16:9 no borders added. Cropping very little so only resizing upward a small amount right? Did a googleing but could not conclude what would be the best resize method in this case, or if any would make a notable difference on such a small scale.
I have always used BiCubic 0.06 mostly because I liked the sharpening effect, (was at the time doing 16:9 encoded as 4:3)
Lately I have been testing some with UnDot() before resize and considering it's usage full time for all DVD source material. It hasn't caused any ill effect even on clean source so far.
Then this thought came to mind, UnDot() then Bicubic 0.06, could they be working against each other. "Smoothing" with UnDot then sharpening some in the resizing.
Leave's me with these questions:
1-Anamorphic 16:9 no borders added very little resizing. Best choice on resize method for a small upsize?
2-If Bicubic is the best choice, are UnDot()(PreResize) and Bicubic 0.06 working against each other. (Resize possibly making noise that Undot would or has smoothed come back as such)
3-Is Undot better used Pre or Post resize? PostResize would nullify the previous concern it seems, from my readings it seems it is mostly used preresize.
3-If SimpleResize or Bilinear are the better choice for this resize situation and I still wanted to add some sharpening, what would be a good choice on filter and it's parameters, and placement in the script?
I am looking for a good educated starting point based on your expierience as far as what resize method and filter order for the output I am using.
Thanks for reading.
