BBMPEG problems

hi,

I'm getting problems using BBMPEG. This is what i do. I was going to try to use it to split my movie because i have a guide here. I went to Start Encoding-->Settings-->Input/Output tab.. I click the box to load in my video and it closes out the program. does anyone have similar probelms and know a work around?? I really want to use BBMPEG and only that for now. thanks everyone.

also.. I made a SVCD but i wanted to see what would happen if i made the SVCD as DVD quality. bitrate 2500 kbps and resolution 720 X 480. I tried to play it after encoding. I only got the sound and it wouldnt show the actual movie. why is that?? Is it because i had the SVCD set to DVD quality??

nope you'll never get that to work :) the svcd standard sets a max resolution and a max bitrate, both of which you have definitely exceeded - therefore you can't play it back. if you want dvd quality mpeg2 video on cd you might want to try miniDVD - you should find the guides at doom9.org. be aware though that almost nobody uses those since dvd media has gotten as cheap as it is right now...

heh, my old DVD player would play full bitrate DVD mpeg-2 muxed into an svcd file with mp2.

of course, it wasn't even supposed to be able to play svcd at all - just a stuff-up with the firmware. the audio was all out of sync, but toshiba couldn't be bothered allowing it to play back svcd though it was clearly capable of handling it.

Actually you are only party correct in your statement. SVCD specs allow for a max combined bitrate of 2756Kbps. This includes audio and video. He said that he had the video bitrate set at 2500Kbps, which is perfectly acceptable since the standards call for a video bitrate of 2600Kbps or less.

The resolution of his video is what violates specs. The SVCD spec calls for a resolution of NTSC: 480x480 or PAL: 480x576.

Regarding part 1 of your posting:

If you have windows xp, it is probably the xp incompatibility. Use either this patched dll http://divx-digest.com/software/avi2mpg2.html or, after opening the "add" dialog, hit cancel and then reopen the add dialog.

I don't have xp, so it's all theory for me :). But before trying to use bbmpeg for splitting files, better encode to sth. svcd-compliant.
dvd2svcd also uses bbmpeg, btw, but comes with a workaround for that bug.
