MPC has small pauze everytime a subtitle shows

I'm using MPC 6.4.8.2 and winxp.
When i play a movie with subtitles i get a small pauze / stutter everytime a subtitle is printed on screen. I've always used MPC with subs and never had this problem before. I'm sure i haven't changed any setting of my vid card ( like AA ) to trigger this.

Playing the same movie with subs on bspplayer goes smooth. But i'd rather use MPC.

On my pc a fair number of codecs are installed. Can it be that some codec 'took' over the rendering process of the subtitling maybe?
I don't know much about video codecs and how they work. Any suggestions that can help me solve all this are very welcome!

It did the same for me, until i uninstalled VDubMod, and reinstalled my codecs.

Just in case anyone else has this problem.
I fixed it by overriding some filters in mpc filter options:

- All Indeo® audio and video filters
(in my case 4.4 and 5.10 filter versions)
- All MainConcept MPEG filters
- WMV Screen decoder DMO

So all the above set to 'Block'.

One of those fixed it. I can't be too sure about which one though because i'm also trying to fix another problem i'm having.

Block more filters is my best best.
Or check your vidcard settings. (AntiAliasing)

Can antialiasing really affect video playback, I was sure it is a direct3D/OpenGL setting only?

@sapient: Have you tried using VSfilter instead of the internal subtitle filter of MPC or changing color space or buffering settings in VSfillter/Internal Subtitle filter? Which video card and CPU are you running?

Blocking filters that do not load anyway does not seem to be relevant to me... Why would blocking a filter that has nothing to do with the file beeing played help?

I have not tried vsfilter and I don't want to... I 'd rather use bsplayer if mpc does not perform....

I have an ati 9600 with the latest drivers (4.9) and a p4@2800 with 1gb ram. Anti-aliasing is off. I am running winXP.
Subtitle buffering is at its max value (10).

I have a faint recolection that playback was normal with graphics driver version 4.8 and had the same problem with version 4.7... Or it might be that I was using different versions of ffdshow around these times... The problem persist, though, even when I use xvids own decoder.

I wonder, however, why this problem occurs exclusively with mpc and not other players... It should be possible to get mpc to perform normally when othe players do so on the same pc...

I just hope someone who actually knows something about mpc would read this and answer...


P.S.: I have the exact same problem on my secondary pc, an amd@1200 with a geforce3 graphics card and the next to last driver version, running win2000. I did not have this problem on that pc a few weeks ago either, and I can honestly not say what, if anything, I changed since then... I generally do not fiddle with the "secondary" pc...

I use MPC frequently... did you know that MPC uses the same code as VSfilter internally (but as the newest MPC is newer than VSFilter I imagine using it wouldn't help)? I just looked at the subtitle settings of MPC and noticed the anti-aliasing warning, odd.

I assume you have tried different rendering techniques (overlay, VMR7, VMR9)?

As a easy to check possibility - does it help to turn down the hardware acceleration one notch in the troubleshooting tab of your video settings? If yes it is a driver problem.

I use it very frequently... using and coding are two very different things though and no one with inside knowledge seems around to help...

Lowering hardware acceleration didn't help.
The problem is the same with both vmr7 and vmr9. MPC can't show subs using overlay... unfortunately...

CPU is not used up

My objection with vsfilter is not its code but the fact that it is a seperate filter. I 'd rather use a player with built-in subtitle support. So since mpc isn't playing along lately, I 'll use bsplayer for now.

I hope somebody comes up with any other ideas or ideally gabest fixes whatever the problem is, since it is diffinetaly something particular to mpc.
