If it's true that soon the new package will be available in shops it should be complete and maybe in manufactoring at this time

i assume ahead will look at the weakest player/chip existing and will create a private ASP profile which is playable on this player, to ensure as much interoperability as possible, but making the private profile pretty useless from a quality point of view (as its the case with divx's private profiles too)

perhaps they already did this in recode2?

Although adding AVC support to existing Mpeg4 stand-alone players would be nice. I would hope we don't get a confusing mass of profiles!

As far as I can see, we should only really require two versions. A "full spec" version, for use on "new" full spec hardware players. And a "low spec" version, for use on any existing players that can be converted....

i very much doubt that there will be any avc hardware players released soon...
and once they are here, they will be supporting the HD-DVD and/or bluray standard. the industry simply needs such a broadly accepted standard, the mess like with ASP never really made it

Some news from german´s page:

German PC mag Chip has a preview of Nero 6.6. It contains an improved VisionExpress app that supports a lot of input formats (even DVD-VR and (S)VCD), but the most important information is probably what it does not contain: the 2nd generation of their MPEG-4 NeroDigital solution - the H.264 (AKA MPEG-4 AVC) codec is still missing in action.

I guess so since the profiles defined in the standard are much too difficult to implement on a relatively simple machine.

The chip-set manufacturers should be designing and building chip-sets that can accommodate all of AVC's bells and whistles from the get-go!

Do we really need the same level of confusion with AVC that we currently have with Mpeg4? Thankfully though, AVC does not include GMC, so there will be no confusion here!

And one thing us consumers definitely don't need, is for a codec manufacturer (any codec manufacturer) to invent an "certification" program!

Just my 2 cents...

But some AVC stuff isnt standardized yet...

You should post a new thread about your issues and I'll try to reply but keep in mind that I didn't developed those filters and therefore don't know everything about them (this also applies to other nero programs).
