View Full Version : Elizabeth

Tried a search for this problem and only got 5 hits and none of them were about this movie. Didn't see a forum to address this particular issue. This movie stars Cate Blanchett as "Elizabeth".
That out of the way, I tried to back up this movie by ripping the "files" to my hard drive. However, when I play those files with PowerDVD, chapter four shows subtitles about the director, producer, editor, etc. for about 20 seconds of that chapter. These would typically be things seen either right at the beginning or at the end of the movie.
Does anyone recall seeing this "oddity"?
Just looking for a tip to back this movie up without those on-screen subtitles that really appear out of place in the middle of a movie.
I have started the movie, selected my audio options, and turned off subtitles. It's like those subtitles are embedded. It reminds me of some movies that navigate to the correct cells in another title just to force you to keep a title set that you think you can get rid of.
thanks.

A Screener normally refers to a copy made from either VHS tape or from DVD-Video disc that are sent to movie critics and censors before the movie is available to public through video rental chains.

2COOL - considering Elizabeth has been on dvd for 6+ years i some how doubt he has a screener dont you ?
taking that he may mean he is seeing the credits or title sequence etc means we do have something to work with.
old-hack - the sequence of of a film does not have to be in order in the vobs. the ifo will contain the exact playing order of each cell so it is the ifo you need to use to encode.

This is the commercial R1, NTSC, dvd of "Elizabeth". It just seemed odd that ripping it to my hard drive and playing the files - specifically chapter 4 - I would see credits in the subtitle area of that chapter.
Don't know what else to tell you about it. I'll keep digging. Maybe this is just a freak occurence. Again, I see these credits in the subtitle area of the video during chapter four and nothing has been stripped out of the movie. I ripped all of the files from the DVD and saw this when playing it with PowerDVd.

Hi all. :)
old-hack, are you playing the VOB files individually, or the whole DVD (via the VIDEO_TS folder or VIDEO_TS.IFO file)?

I'm using the "open DVD file on hard disc drive" option with PowerDVD. I've also used Mark's Tray DVD Player. These credits are being show nearly 10 minutes into the movie. That may not be abnormal, but it just seemed odd to me to see them as late as chapter 3 and 4.

DVDDecrypter - file mode - all files in a VIDEO_TS folder. The whole movie is there. It starts up with the menu where I can select audio, subtitles, chapters, extras, etc. Nothing is missing. It looks like they took advantange of opening scenes where there wasn't any dialog to continue showing credits. They were gone after the first 30 seconds of chapter 4.

old-hack,
I have this DVD as well, a commercial double-layered (!) PAL version from Thailand. I scanned it quickly on my player and approx. after 8 minutes these credits appear and last for about 2 or 3 minutes. They are part of the movie.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. I haven't watched this movie for some time and decided to back it up. When previewing it, I saw those credits show up rather late (compared to other movies) so I thought it might be jumping from title to title just to cause problems for people like us that back up dvd's.
Thanks.
