Can someone please help me with this majot problem.

I have a few audio files that i've found out to be riff wave files, but this files are unplayable so far.
What I'm trying to do is to make them playable and to convert them to a normal wave format.
Does anyone know of a process that can help me please.

DETAILS OF FILE.

could you copy paste the first +- 100 bytes (HEX) from the wav? I think i can find out how you can decode the wav.

i have tested your header and i found out that th "format tag" is not a standard WAVE_FORMAT_PCM or WAVE_FORMAT_IEEE_FLOAT but WAVE_FORMAT_ADPCM.

the first two are the normal formats which are usually suported by most programs. Your file however has a different type which i now nothing about.

I have to go to bed now (have to get up early tomorrow) but i will look into this a little more tomorrow, and maybe ill make a programm which can handle this type .
I cant promise anything, but i think ill find a solution.

BTW i see now that you wrote it in your first post its Microsoft ADPCM format :).


Have you any idea where these files come frome? I have never seen such a file before.

They files came from the PC Game Rayman 3, all the audio files where placed in one large file which I managed to extract all the files from inside.

Itīs a wild guess, but perhaps installing the ADPCM codec would help?
Or is it installed anyway, as Windows standard?

I have tried these codec's:

IMA ADPCM Audio Codec
Microsoft ADPCM Audio Codec
Even tried the Xbox ADPCM Audio Codec

But sadly still wouldn't play, unless someone knows of any other adpcm codec's I could try.

Did you try to open it with SNDREC32? Maybe that can open it, itīs a rather old program, I think. And made for WAV files.

Yeah tried that, it can open the file but can't playback or save as a new format.

i have the specs from the codec but i dont have the time right now to modify my program so it can decode it, so for now im afraid i cant help you any further.

I donīt think the fileīs an valid WAV file. It contains a WAV header, but the data probably has been scrambled for protection.

Try to search the web, maybe the companyīs known for that, and there are explanations how they did it.

I once had a similar situation - with a file from the DUCK corporation - turned out they simply shifted the bits to scramble it - no program could play the file, even though itīs header were valid...
