Authoring software re-encodes ?

there is something i don't understand about acquiring... It's that when you encode with CCE. And you have to author... Doesn't the authoring software RE-encodes the video stream so as to put the transitions in it, and any special effects on it ?

I read your statment and I'm having a hard time understanding what you are talking about ....

Acquiring - This is usually going from analog to digital. (or just getting the digital from a tape). If you are going to do transition types of edits, usually you aquire to DV or MJPEG or maybe Huffyuv.

Editing - This is where one usually adds transitions, cuts, effects to video. You can edit in mpeg, but fancy stuff is usually done in DV or MJPEG.

Authoring - Here you can add menu transitions and maybe jump around on the movie ... but actually changing the mpeg movie is not really authoring.

Of course, lots of software crosses over all of these things. Some all in 1 packages do them all.

Finally... adding effects in the movie stream would require re-encoding. This is generally done in editing and not in mpeg. Authoring can do menu 'effects'.

What software are you talking about ?

in the tutorial...

They tell me to do the editing using virtualdub and avisynth...

BUT, they do not say anything about advanced editing like adding movie special effects and titles... (On the movie I mean).

I want to that in huffyuv and then feed the frames through avisynth (frameserve).

Example: adding snow, rain, explosions, etc... BEFORE encoding to MPEG2
