Hey,

I'm looking to buy another spindle soon of DVD-R's, but it's been a long time since I looked at the different brands. So far I've been going with Ritek's 1x's for the past 200 now, I was wondering if it's good to stick with those, or if there's another brand that's emerged as the best deal for the quality vs. the price.

Thanks.

I always use Verbatim and I'm very happy about them, they may be a little more expensive, but they're worth it.

I've used almost all disc types available from Verbatim (DVD-R for 2x, 4x and 8x, DVD+R for 4x and 8x, DVD+RW 4x, DVD-RW 1x, 2x, 4x, DVD-RAM 2x and DVD+R DL), and *all* of them have always worked.

I think they stopped making Ritek 1x disks didn't they?

I'd go with taiyo yuden...they've come down in price now, and they're supposed to be better than ritek.
I'm testing a spindle of 50 myself that I got from rima.com

Ritek quality has dipped a bit...
i've had a bad batch ,my friend had a bad batch...and a few others on the 'net have had various problems with their 4x media

I'm sure you know that there are some faked TYG02 around?

I was experiencing burn problems with G04 (Ridata branded) that I never had before with Ritek. Got lots of calibration errors but they seemed to burn OK at 2x. I just bought a pack of 8x Riteks and they are burning fine at 4x (max for my a05).

I have a Pioneer A05 and A06 and have good experience with:

Verbatim 4x Silver/Printable surface (works with just about everything)
Datamart 4x Silver/Printable surface (works with everything, bar my PS2 for some reason)

I have a Pioneer 107D and a Panny DMR-E50 standalone.

Taiyo Yuden (TYG01 and TYG01) is the only brand that the standalone likes all the time. My old Panny LF-D311 also loved TY.

The Pioneer will burn anything (well, maybe not Princo :D ) without a problem ;)

I was buying Maxell branded (TYG01 and Ritek G04), but the Ritek G04 make my E50 choke every time.

After 2,600+ various brand DVDs burned over the last 2 years, Taiyo Yuden is the only brand I'll buy anymore. And the price at Rima.com just dropped to $56/100 for the 8X TYG02 so I bought 200 of those yesterday.
