I'm starting to do some conversions to Divx with AutoGK for my Media Server. My Goal is to get as close to DVD quality as Possible while retaining the DD5.1 and saving as much space as Possible. I will be viewing these encodes on my Optoma DLP Projector I just purchased which is an 800x600 projector. I will be getting a 45x80 screen for a 90 inch image.

I've used AutoGK before but never in the respect to using the encodes on that large of a screen. My first encode last night was Kill Bill Volume one. I used one of the DVDR settings with a 2048 max size. I quickly looked at the file this morning before I was off to work and on my LCD (I have'nt mounted my projector or screen yet) I have to say it very good. My Reciever had no audio passing thru to DD5.1 but I'm thinking I need to tweak AC3filter somehow and that the sound should be there. For optional settings I left it to Auto width and the resultant file was 704x280 I think. Is there a better setting to use there and would a better setting than the 2048max yield a better result. I'm happy if I can keep the size to half the size of a dvd if possible.

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks guys

If don't want to go over a certain size, then what you're doing is OK.
If you want a constant great quality at maximum resolution without a given size then quality based encoding (70-80%) will do the trick (Although you may end up with large files sometime).
