Change Log
3.5.1.0 Released: 2nd September 2004 Take me to the top, baby!

* Added: Ability to Import / Export PSL (Protected Sectors List) files (Option is located in the 'File' menu). Users can work out the best methods to backup certain 'problem' discs
* Added: Dialog box to remind users to load the MDS file instead of the ISO file - it's good practice and is vital for nice DL burns
* Changed: Structure Protection code to find more instances of 'suspect' areas on the disc
* Changed: Some of the Automatic 'Transfer Length' code. It now checks for additional possible errors in the output from the API call
* Changed: Previous workaround for Plextor PX-712A authentication problem caused problems for old drives that hang on a 'Rezero' command (Status bar always displayed 'Almost Ready'). The command now only runs on Plextor DVDR drives
* Fixed: Access violation errors caused by nasty IFO files on some of the newer discs
* Fixed: 'Browse' was always visible in the 'File' menu
* Fixed: Potential issue with getting the disc size from the ISO9660 file system (only used in ISO Read mode on DVD+RW discs)
* Fixed: 'Cracking CSS' dialog box showed very inaccurate progress information
* Fixed: CSS cracking was repeating itself on files it shouldn't have been

this might be a very stupid question, but how can i use a VIDEO_TS-folder on my hdd as source for ripping instead of a dvd drive or a virtual dvd drive?

LIGHTNING UK! has said he won't be adding this feature. So your only option is to make an ISO image using ImgTool Classic (http://www.coujo.de/) or similar and then burn it with DVD Decrypter.

Why burn it? Just mount the ISO image with Daemon Tools and use DVD Decrypter on that...

rmtaibo,

If the firmware supports it, and it's the same commands as for the 4120B drive, yes it'll work.

I only have 4120B drive so that's all I've tested it with.

Thanks Lightning UK!

I'll give a try...

A question:
Does Your 4120 Drive support bitsetting on DVD+R single layer media?
or it works only in DL media...

Update...
The A304 firmware for this drive does not support bitsetting commands....

np: Close Up Over - Jauqq (Bytes) Miss read the original post! Thought they were asking to burn from files on the hard disk, not rip. Maybe I need to look into getting some glasses... :)

It is supposed to be able to 'set the book type'? I thought it was only supposed to display it. Is that in the 'current profile' dvd+r it will say 'dvd-rom'.

If it is able to change it where should we be looking exactly?

edit: ok from my understanding it displays the current book type. It's really cool because BEFORE you burn that dvd .iso you can tell the dvd+r is book type: dvd-rom and away you go. This worked on a friend's xbox that would only play dvd-r media. I couldn't believe it.

As with most of the cool features, it's well hidden! lol

On the ISO Write page, there is a little picture of a book down where you set the speed. Click it :)

That's 1 way of doing it, the other is via the context menu on the device drop down list - like where 'Erase' and that sort of thing live.

i have never got this option to work. is this a bug or am i missing something? what ever i set it to, when i come in to a new disc it i have to click the enable stream selection button before deselcting the streams i wish to leave out.. i am not too upset with one extra button pushing, but like to see things work as intended..
dave
ps - thanks for a great tool which has enabled me to back up so many television episodes and movies that would normally be a hassle to watch.. ahhh playlists...

Just tested it this second.

Works fine for me, sorry.

i have uninstalled, checked for registry entries (your installer cleans them very nicely btw, i was impressed as most leave garbage behind) and than reinstalled.. funny thing is, if i do not select a pgc the stream selection box is checked (but of course unavailable)... once i select a pgc the box is cleared....
as i said, no big deal.. but i will attempt to replicate on a separate computer, just to see... one more button press per episode is not much when you conisder how many other steps i go through to manually set up my files to ensure proper compression.... but if it isn't a bug with the software, it makes me wonder if it is my drive... however it works the same (or doesn't) with a mounted image, using neros aspi layer, or spti...

16th September 2004, 20:38
Ahhhh.... if you've manually turned off the 'Select Main Movie PGC' option it wont automatically check the stream processing box - because you're not allowed to select it if you dont have a PGC selected.

DaveId
17th September 2004, 17:49
so to save the extra click i can have it select the main movie pgc, and if i select another pgc after that it will leave the check box enabled? i will give this a shot sometime.. just finished backing up monty python's flying circus (the whole thing) should be doing curb your enthusiasm or another series next, so i will test it out then.. thanks for the time and input and wonderful program..
dave

LIGHTNING UK!
17th September 2004, 20:37
Yup, just have it select the main movie pgc by default.

It wont uncheck the box once it's checked - unless you select something that you cant rip - i.e. one of the VTS_0X entries.

The latest firmware version 1.05 for Plextor PX-712 has the possibility to set the booktype. Does DVD Decrypter support this feature for the Plextor too (maybe in the next version)?

but in most cases i don't have an iso image since i just copied the video_ts-folders to my smb-server. so instead of reading the files from drive H:\ i'd just need an option to read them from e.g. N:\movieX\video_ts. but since N isn't a dvdrom i cant select it in dvddecrypter. is it possible to add such a path-selection-feature to one of the next versions? right now this is the only reason why i still use smartripper most of the time.

or can i mount a video_ts-folder with daemon tools as a dvdrom (i couldn't find a way to do this)?

Ok, so get out of that habbit and just read in ISO mode instead :)

No the program will not be changed to read from the hdd. It's too tightly integrated now for me to go messing around, making it read 'files' instead of 'sectors'.

3.5.1.0 doesn't but 3.5.2.0 will. I've already implemented it, just need to release it - and before you ask, I don't know when that will be ;)

This implementation would really be "the icing on the cake".

I would love an easy way to turn all my old DVD files (stored in folders) into ISO files...

Cheers

maybe we should ask the daemon-tools team if they can add a mount-folder-instead-of-iso-image-option ;)

from that virtual drive one could then make an iso with dvd-decrypter easily.

Not a bad idea Arcon... could something like this be made possible?

in the best case it's just a few minutes work and they'll add it, in the worst case they will tell us that daemon-tools internally uses a sector-based approach and we have the same problem as with dvd-decrypter :)

i saw that somebody already requested that feature and just added my 2 cents to the thread (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/viewtopic.php?t=3533). let's see what happens.

But I'd rather do it with DVD Decrypter ;)

Besides, what's the deal with having to create all those folders with ImgTool Classic. Why can't you just highlight the DVD files in the folder and press: -

It was my understanding that the folder structure is very logical.

I'd guess you dont rip to C:\VIDEO_TS or whatever (which I can see would cause you problems!) so all you do is point ImgTool Classic at something like C:\DVD

Where C:\DVD contains the video_ts folder.

That's how DVD Maestro does it too and I think thats pretty good.

To have imgtool work how you're saying, you're really limiting it because you'd be creating a file structure within the ISO that doesnt exist on the source. As such, you wouldnt be able to put anything in the root folder, or have more than 1 folder in it - that 1 folder would of course be the VIDEO_TS folder.

You'd always want to point the creation program at the folder that's going to become the root of the dvd image. VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS are folders within this root.

Anyway, enough of teaching you to suck eggs!

you posted this Sep 8...not till today Oct 14th did I accidentally discover this little hiddem gem. Forgot about this thread. Works awesome...no need for lite-on book-type utility.

Can't find the context menu...perhaps that's only if DVD+RW is inserted rather DVD+R. Doesn't matter...anyway

Is there a way you could possibly 'save book-type settings'. This way instead of 9 clicks it would be 4 clicks. Or even better have a 'save book-type settings' and just a change button right next to book type as I wish to do this on all my dvds I burn. Thanks so much Lightning UK!.

Whats funny is if you have a dvd-9 on your harddrive daemon will give dvd decrypter errors cuz its a dvd over 4.??GB, also you can quite burn a full dvd-9 with a dvd-5 burner :) so kinda screwed in that aspect. I hope LIGHTNING UK! adds this support I dont think its a legal issue.

DVD Decrypter kept saying there were read errors in every sector.

Maybe there was a problem with the actual image then.

When everything is ok, it works fine.

After I have installed the new version, it seem like the auto shutdown doesn't work any more :( How to resolve this problem? Any patch out there?
