I used to use AviUtl's Automatic Deinterlace a lot a long time ago but never did find out what method it was using. It didn't cause any ghosting but did produce some stairstepping at times. I'm guessing some kind of interpolation but it didn't seem to lose as much detail as most other methods.
I'm just trying to form a base of comparision as I try to figure out what's a good deinterlacer to use now. So far I've just tried KernalDeint for avisynth but I really don't like the ghosting it's making, and I can't really find a good description of what method that one is using either.
