Sony DV to Microsoft DV Conversion?

I've got a Sony DV-cam, and it puts out Sony DV formatted AVI files, and Premiere seems to choke on them, stuttering like crazy and messing up previews/transitions. Is there any way to convert the AVI to a Microsoft DV type AVI?

I found a program called DV File Converter, but the company wants $100 for it (what the crap?) -- there must be a free or cheaper alternative?

I've a JVC miniDV that's seen as sony DV and I find that converting my type 1 transfers in this program to MS type 1 fixes the AVI sound being seen as 32KHZ (actually 48KHZ).
