DVD burner is a month-old 4KUS 8x DVD+-RW DRW-2S81 w/ recently (ie. last week) d'loaded firmware update, in a XP SP1-Pro machine, using Nero 5.5.10.56. Have probably blown about half a spindle of Princo 4x DVD-R media. What's strange is the nature of the coasters.

Has anyone experienced anything like this:

1) Nero apparently burns data discs normally, then after ejecting the disc in order to verify it, the verify fails bec the burner didn't really burn the disc. Can manually reinsert the disc and Nero's Medium Info menu option will confirm that nothing was written.

2) Nero actually burns data disc and verfies it, can successfully use disc on other systems, then suddenly the disc's contents become corrupt ! There are no scratches, smudges, or drop-outs of any kind.

There have been other quirks and glitches, but the two above are the worst and occur with regularity. Moreover, I had a perfectly good 4x Pioneer that I sold bec I thought the 4KUS burner was a good deal. (I'd had success with a batch of 4KUS CD-RW/DVD combo drives.)

This is such a weird problem that I'm going to RMA the drive tomorrow. I'm wondering if this kinda stuf typical for DVD burning and burners. Have owned, installed, and used many CD-RW brands w/ little trouble in the last three years. But DVD burning is much more sensitive to more factors. Later....Jet

This is apparently a Liteon 812S OEM writer, maybe Liteon owners could offer some advice.
As for 2) - I would say it is inferior media degrading quickly, in addition, your writer's firmware might have problems writing to this type of media. Try with quality media (preferably useing a brand recommended by your vendor).

Steve: Been reading a nbr of threads in this forum and it appears that DVD burning isn't as nearly reliable or stable as CD burning. I say this bec even when using cheapo bulk CD-Rs, I've never seen a failure rate higher than 10% (which is a rare spindle.) Moreover, I have many cheapo CD-Rs that are still operable after two years, on a wide variety of drives.

Anyway, thanx for the feedback, even if it wasn't I'd hoped for....Jet

Use the latest version of Nero 6. Earlier versions cause problems burning DVD and verifier not to good.

i've had a prob. with the first. i was burning maxell, and (i have an emprex burner) sometimes i would just get a coaster and the burner would not really burn anything. i tried 3 more dvds in a row, and decided to just restart and start with a fresh dvd and it worked. but the 3 i used before were now damaged. try restarting and burning with a new dvdr, dont use the ones youve failed with.
