I have some captures of TV that is in stereo sound. I would like to try to convert that to AC3 5.1 Is there a way to do that kind of conversion. Can i somehow convert the MPEG audio to a wav file and follow through some of the published guides here

Load the mpg file into VirtualDubMod. Select edit audio. Right click on the audio file and select full processing. Click on save wav, give it a name and then click save. You will then have a wav file ready for conversion with any of the 5.1 processes in the forum

I always ask myself "Why do they do this?"
A Stereo source is Stereo. If any process can extract additional channels from phase shifts in the signal, then the Dolby Surround Decoder in your amplifiers will be able to do this too.
