ive been encoding using the avi container for about a year, with little problems. Recently i received a movie in .ogm format, and i want to convert it to a typical Xvid/mp3 avi container. It currently has Xvid Encoded video, AC3 6 channel audio, and english/no subtitles. Can anyone please recommend a way how to demux, convert and mux these files into a Xvid/mp3 avi?
I tried Virtual dub mod and it says it cannot decode the audio, but i have the soundforge AC3filter.
Thanks

That is a dshow filter. You need an ACM decoder. Personally I would demux the AC3, re-encode and then remux.

Thats strange. VirtualdubMod has a statically linked library to handle AC3 audio, there is no need for any ACM codec or DShow filter to be installed.
What exactly does VirtualdubMod tell you if you are trying to convert it ? Do you have any good MP3 ACM codec ( like Radium or Lame ACM ) installed, for the conversion step to MP3 ?
But, as you write this is 6 channel AC3 i guess the problem is that its impossible to create a 6 ch MP3, and most probably VirtualdubMod doesnt have any channel downmixer filter installed to make a Stereo encode from the 6 ch AC3, so you have to
- demux the AC3 into a separate file, using VdubMod
- run the AC3 through BeSweet or Foobar2000, including channel downmixing
- Process the OGM into video only AVI, stripping the audio and subtitles out ( disable them in the 'streams' list )
- Mux the AVI and the MP3 ( the result of BeSweet or Foobar2000 ), and preferably with avi-mux GUI (http://alexnoe.matroska.org) to save on overhead
And, BTW, this is maybe the wrong section to post, the 'Newbies' section here would have been the right place ;) ...

Since fcchandler created a AC3ACM, native AC3 decoding was removed from VirtualDubMod. (you should know this Christian :p)
You can eitehr downgrade VirtualDubMod (im not sure to which version... you should check changelogs) or get the AC3ACM from here (http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/)
Demuxing and converting will also work of course. You can keep the subtitles too if you want...
