virtual vcr capturing problems

greeting,

i was following the analog capture guide today, and decided to try virtual vcr. everything went fine, i set it up, preview window was showing perfect picture.. but as soon as i start recording, horizontal flickering lines start appearing! and they land in the recording aswell. they look like, i dont know, something would be interfacing with signal or so (yeah, dumb explanation, but it looks so!)

why does it happen, when preview is as clean as it gets :/

forget it.. i just tried to be too smart. appearently you dont need to check custom settings in video tab.. capture pin properties are enough.. though i still have no idea why having same settings in both places would produce those artefacts..

could it be your hard drive interfering with the signal?
can you try another hd or moving it further away from the capture card?

no not at all, more like wide packs of lines appearing at random, in random places..

You may also want to post some info on your PC. Are you running a VIA chipset perchance? VIA chipsets and Soundblaster sound cards have been known to slow down the PCI bus, thus messing up captures. I went to an NForce2-based board for this specific reason.

i am experiencing a similar problem to you. In my case, it seems that the sata controller is to blame. I have a nf7-s which has the silicon image sata on it. When i was using a pata drive I had no such problems.

The capture card is a flyvideo 3000 based on the philips chip. It is the only card I have in the pci slots. The weird thing is, I can put it in any of the slots that dont share with the sata irq and get bad interference. When i put it in slot 2 which shares irq with sata, the problem is lessened quite a lot.

I am still trying different things to see if i can get rid of the problem completely but I have had no real luck as of yet.

as i said, i fixed it by not setting size in vvcr options, but setting it in capture device properties.. it works fine then

yeah, unfortunatley that wont work with my probs - must be a different set to what yours were anyway as i will get these tear type effects on the screen in any capture program - like windvd capture, virtualvcr, the capture software that comes with the card.
