Just wondering if 8mbps is too high. I know standard max is something like 9.8, but i've read people saying you shouldnt go above 7 or 6... This is CBR btw, no real need for VBR since i'm no where near pressed for dvd space. Thanks

Should be fine.
All you need to do is allow for sound tracks to keep under the max, thats why I try and limit my video bitrates to under 9.4, allows for 384kbps sound.

K, thanks

The reason for that advice is no doubt that some players experience difficulty reading from recordable media where the video has a sustained high bitrate. I have no personal experience though.

hi there,
I've had problems with my old yamakawa 715 and high cbr bitrates @ recordable media, especially using dvd-rw ! everything above 5 mbps generated a jerky playback.
it seems that the old dvd-loader has had problems to keep the sustained data rate when the error correction becomes active.
but at all my "new" dvd-players a sustained data rate of 8 or 9 mbps won't be a problem (except if I use very cheap dvd-r's).
just my 2 cents...
