Hi,

I have the following problem whilst aurthoring using scenarist.

Error Total sector size<2303492> is larger than DVD disc capacity<2294912>

Error CheckFileSystem error returned.
Error Disc image could not be created.

In dvd2svcd I have set the disk size to 4480.

Is there a way around this error in scenarist.

Thanks Very Much

Chris

No but I will look into it now,

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

A CD size of 4464MB will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. 4480MB is known to cause occasional oversizes.

Bob

Hi,

I started again from scratch with 4464 but still same problem.

Scenarist gave errors such as cannot import but these only appeared then vanished but the process continued utill building disks then stopped.

I have tried dvd chapters and fixed with no success but will keep playing around.

Heres the dvd2svcd log.

Hi,

Are you attempting to do DVD2DVD? I notice from your log that there is a lot of audio processing going on. For DVD2DVD, this is unnecessary. On the audio tab, check 'do not convert audio', and try again. If you are already doing this, I haven't got a clue what's going on. Perhaps someone else can help?

Bob

Hi!

It seems that you have solved the size problem, but you have a new one instead. The Scenarist log from the second encoding could help a lot.
Your log says, that you were doing mpeg5.1 audio. This can couse a lot of problems. Important: MPEG5.1 is not the same as AC3!!! However it is included in the DVD comliance list, it is not supported by most of the players. You also can hardly find discs in the stores using this format. So I guess this is the file, that Scenarist cannot import. This couses further problems during authoring, becouse D2S creates the DVD structure for 1 audio stream (that is missing).
Solution: Use source audio, or encode to mp2 stereo.

Thanks very much thats a great help.

I got an image produced last night by changing cd size to 4400 and using bicubic resize instead of lancoz.

I was re-encoding the audio to save dvd disk space but did not realise this would cause problems.

It is 24 series 3 but i'm only on disk 2 with each one giving different probs but I think I now know what i'm doing so I will start from scratch.

Cheers

Hi,

I started from fresh using source audio but this has not helped, the scenarist logs are below.

Could it be something to do with the dvd2svcd version I am using as I believe the only successfull attempts have been using build 1.2.1 b3 whereas the recent version I have been using is 1.2.2 b2

Hello again.

Does it create the dvd files as reported in a DVD-Image directory. Do these play ok? Are these oversize? Everything in your log looks fine other than the final iso image being too large for some reason.
I notice the ifo you selected has a menu vob. Is this intentional?

Bob

I have 5 vob files in the video directory in the dvd image directory and they play ok.

The menu vob is there as I was trying to work out how to keep the main menu intact? How can this be done. I do not think this is related to the problem though as I did not use the menu in previous attempts.

The dvd image folder is 4.47 GB.

Thanks very much.

Hello again,

DVD2DVD is primarily a main movie tool; in other words it deals with a PGC of a single ifo. If it is a multiple episode disc that you are trying to do along with keeping the menu, then it can be done by encoding each episode separately and then re-authoring with the menu later. I personally haven't done this, but there are many people that have. Do a search, however it is not a straightforward process, it requires several manual steps.

IMO, with a multi-episodic disc, you are probably better off using dvd-rebuilder since it keeps the original structure of the dvd intact (including menu) and allows you to remove the audio tracks you don't want. Since it can use CCE, you get decent picture quality.

Even simpler still use a transcoder like dvdshrink or instant copy (these may have worse picture quality though - dependant upon the amount of compression required). You could use shrink to split it over 2 disks and replace the titles that you don't want with a still image (in order to improve the compression ratio).

I notice that you are only encoding one movie vob, is that all you want to encode. Is that just one episode? Confirm that the time given for the ifo that you select in D2S corresponds to what you actually want to encode.

However, if the files you've encoded play ok and you're happy with them, then just reduce the cd-size until it fits. I don't understand why it should oversize by 100MB though!

Bob

I had tried dvdrebuilder before but it didnt work so i gave up on it because i had always been happy using dvd2svcd. I may give it another try.

When I select the largest ifo the file lengths listed in the scroll down menu are:

42.13 mins
41.17
42.09
42.11
41.17
42.09
42.11,

These are incorrect as the total length of the movie is 2h48mins, with the cce log showing 10112.36 seconds which is correct. For some reason the times shown repeat themselves (this is more clearly seen on disk 1)

The vob I have selected which I believe to be correct is the main movie.

I am going to try using the old build again and may give dvdrb a go.

Thanks
kip

Hello,

Started again last night using the older build of dvd2svcd and I now have an image. Scenarist did give an error, but I think it is something to do with still frames but i've got an image so i'm happy.
