How can this mpeg-2 file be converted so that it could be burnt

Probably not. Tmpgenc 2.5 does not do ac3. Did you use virtualdubmod to demux the ac3 from the avi?

You need a authoring program. Tmpg makes a dvdauthoring program, with a fully functional trial. Go to the Pegasys (http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html) site. Download it and follow the instructions. This is a low-end authoring program that should suit your present needs.

I would de-mux the audio from the avi. I would use the tools section of tmpgenc to demux the video from your mpg. This would leave you with a yourfile.m2v (video file) and a yourfile.ac3 (audio file). You could then load them directly into dvdauthor and place it into the proper container. When that action is complete you could then burn it to dvd with dvdauthors burning proggie or use Nero.
