Hi, all i'm trying to do is to convert an mpeg1 file with mp2 audio in an Divx with mp3.

so i used virtualdubmod 1.5.10, but I can't find a way to select any audio compression.

The created file is larger than the original !!!!!!

started with 40mb Mpg1 file get a 96Mb Avi

there's more than 60Mb audio data in it !!!
no audio compression at all

when readin the faqs there's word of selecting audio category, but Vdub 1.5.10 HAS NO AUDIO  category !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't find a way to select any audio compression

I have installed the tsunami filter pack and want to use the lame mp3 codec but can't figure out how.

Hope u unterstand my problem

have you never wondered why there is a streams category? never tried to figure out what that was for? :p

right click on the streams...

thanks so far,
audio options are very complicated to handle.

got another issue:

some of the files have very bad audio (mono, not even 32Kb/s)
There's no use in making them 10 times larger then they were before, cause they won't get better

none of the lame options allows me to keep it as small as it is.
Any ideas ?

uhm

perhas you can demux the audio e.g. with TMPGEnc and remux it again with virtualdubmod or avimux gui... that way it wont get converted. or do you really need mp3?

don't use that tmpeg thingie!!!
u can use da virtualdub along with the other thingie virualdub mod. u can demux. then u can mux it together with da video or play with da sound a little. i sugest using besweet along with besweet gui. they aren't that simple to use but you'll get the hang of it. the advantage is that u can convert almost from any format to any format (audio that is). be well

no you cannot

VDubMod converts audio from MPG to wav... this was the original problem.

i don't get it. what can't i do?
if u have a bad sound u can use vdub mod to demux it as it is. then play with da sound using either command line lame, besweet and even that sound editor in nero6 depending on the sound format.
if it still doesn't work after demuxing, save the image without the sound and after playing with sound remux it to video.
after that use again vdub mod to mux sound and image together.
that's it!

you cannot demux sound from a MPG file in VirtualDubMod, it converts it to wav. its not mpeg layer II anymore. read the first post of this thread.
