When transcoding audio from DVD, I can't quite figure out exactly what delay means and how each program handles it.
For example, after ripping a DVD, DVDDecrypter printed this to "Stream Information.txt":
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x480 (NTSC) / 16:9 /
Letterboxed / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.112 / Delay: 0ms
0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 6ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 5 /
PTS: 00:00:00.036 / Delay: -75ms
Which is well and good. Looks like the audio track starts 75ms after the video track. However, DGIndex demuxes the very same audio track with this filename:
"project_name AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY -9ms.ogg"
Why the change from 75ms to 9ms? Finally, when I transcode the track with BeSweet, the BeSweet GUI automatically enters a delay of -9ms, presumably for a total delay of -9x2 = -18ms. Huh??
Can anyone deconfuse this? Why do different programs use seemingly unrelated delay settings?
Thanks,
-Mike
