Hi All
I have a Mpeg-4 (.mp4) video file that is 1GB in size and i want to split it into 2 parts of 700MB and 400MB is there any software with the help of which i could open the .mp4 file and split it like we split .mpg files in vcd cutter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mp4 files have
Video Stream :- 3ivx/Xvid/Divx
Audio Stream :- AAC 2Channel / AAC 5.1 Channel / MP3 2Channel
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is some thing called as
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Media Splitter
The 3ivx Filter Suite
Link:- http://www.3ivx.com/technology/filters/media_splitter.html
The 3ivx D4 4.5 Media Splitter is an essential component to play back MP4, M4A, 3GP and MOV files inside Windows Media Player (and other DirectShow compatible applications). Together with the 3ivx Audio and Video Decoder it ensures smooth playback of MPEG-4 Video and Audio.
Besides basic demuxing, the splitter supports a number of advanced features such as support for Variable Frame Rate video, MP3 and AAC Audio Support, the option to connect non 3ivx decoders and the possibility to dynamically change fast seeking to accurate seeking in the properties or using the COM Interface.
Media Muxer
The 3ivx Filter Suite
Link:- http://www.3ivx.com/technology/filters/media_muxer.html
The 3ivx D4 4.5 Media Muxer combines MPEG-4 Audio and Video streams into an MP4 or MOV file. It supports Advanced Features such as Multiple Audio tracks, Variable Frame Rate Video, Positive and Negative Track Offsets, System Tracks, NVop Compression and Compressed Headers (also known as Fast Start for Progressive Download). In combination with the 3ivx D4 4.5 Media Splitter, the Muxer can repair broken MP4 streams generated by non-compliant MP4 File Writers or AVI codecs.
The 3ivx D4 4.5 Media Muxer comes as a DirectShow Filter that can be used in GraphEdit or integrated with any DirectShow compatible application.

You are getting confused Video Master.
The media 'splitter' (mentioned in 3ivX's filter suite) is not used for for editing. It's used to separate the audio and video streams prior to passing them to the relevant direct-show decoder filter for playback.
Audio and video streams have to be decoded and processed separately before you can watch and hear them.
There are also some other filters you might want to read up about...
I wonder if somebody else on the forum can provide a link to an 'What is?' type Q & A regarding this subject?
Anyway in answer to your 'editing' question. I don't think there are any 'easy to use' tools that can join .MP4 contained streams.
Ahead (Nero) are working on all sorts of stuff at the moment so in time we might get something. The QuickTime player can join some types of .MP4 streams!
You could try de-muxing the streams out of the .MP4 container, using a tool like mp4UI. Editing/joining the streams together and then re-muxing them, either back into the .MP4 container, or (dare I say it) the .AVI container!
But me thinks you need to read up on some background information first!

well, i think he only wants to split, not join, right? for that you can use quicktime (as long as it has no advanced features in video & no mp3 audio) and probably nero.

Yes, I suppose all Video Master can do is give QuickTime (Pro) a try. That said, if the encode contains more than one AAC audio track, QuickTime Pro won't open it or split it either :(

Hey SeeMoreDigital & yakima
Thanks for taking intrest in problem all i wanted to confirm is
can i use quicktime pro to split and join .mp4 container files.
my .mp4 files have a single video stream (3ivx/Xvid/Divx) and
a single (AAC2/5.1 or mp3) Audio Stream.
Can Quick Time Pro 6.5 be able to Split and Join or any of 2 functions
on my type of .mp4 file.
Plz post your valuable views

If it does not work, you will not be able to edit it!
If you want to see what streams are in your .MP4 file, use mp4UI
By clicking in the right places you should see something like this: -

Obviously your encode will reveal slightly different information but I think you get the general idea...

Personally speaking I've never tried splitting an .MP4 encode!
Does your encode play in the QuickTime player?

Don't beat me, but this actually works:
Transmux MP4 to Matroska in Graphedit by using 3ivx filters and MatroskaMuxer.
Split the file using mkvmerge.
Remux the splitted files in Graphedit with MatroskaSplitter and 3ivx muxer filter.
Well, this is a quite complicated procedure, but it has the advantage that you don't need to pay anything, it's all free.

you can split .mp4 files with simple profile video (which means no b-frames, qpel or gmc allowed) and aac audio directly in quicktime
additionally you can split .mp4 files in graphedit with the nero directshow muxer filter, which allows you to define a size (like 700mb) after which the file gets split during remuxing with the nero muxer
use search for finding out more about how the nero muxer does this

Yunno i tried this but the mkv has a fat header and that makes filesizes whack when you go from mp4->mkv->mp4 (course you can figure it out thru trial and error but neh)

This method seemed to work flawlessly! i LOVE it! things to keep in mind:
-rename graphedit to Recode.exe
-Use Nero Digital Muxer
-Use Nero Digital File Writer (instead of the windows one or else the file splitting wont work)
thanks Bond! Lifesaver i have to say.
P.S. Hrm, a tutorial would have saved me 5 hours of trial and error (found out that Nero Muxer DS was packaged with Nero Vision Express)
