I saw a similar poll on videohelp so why not here.
I will be receiving my first dvdrw so I have some time.

You've left out the 2 most powerful authoring apps - Spruce DVDMaestro and Sonic Scenarist :p

DVDAuthor (the free command-line one) is also missing, as is Rejig (similar to IfoEdit).

I typically use Maestro (I do movie-only), although occasionally I use Scenarist (when doing full backups). Lately I've been using DVDAuthor to stick converted tv episode avis on disc, as I can just run my batch file, enter a few details out pops a DVD with simple menu/navigation and chapters :)

10 was the max option for a poll.

I don't get it. Did you (or your company) spend $5,000 on that software or was Maestro once free/cheap early on?

I recently discovered Sony Vegas DVD Architect. It´s the best I´ve tried for DVD authoring, with menus, chapter selection, and it also opens .avi´s doing all the hard job for you, even encoding the file to a size which will fit better into the disc. The other DVD Enc/Dec progs discussed in the forum are all VERY good, but I found them to be hard-work for somebody who wants the poject done fast. The only problem is that it takes too long to finish everything (the DVD ready to be played). I´m not talking about copying a DVD for backup, but creating your own from the files you already have in your HD, especially if the files are .avi´s. Most of the progs (if not all of them), never opened .avi´s for the projects.

I have to agree with you Matthew DVD Meastro and Scenarist are the most commonly mentioned authoring apps in the forums. I myself use DVD Meastro. When I get lazy I use dvd author.
