The old way I converted dvd's with cce putting the encoded file
through mpegrep to get the pan&scan, then authored with maestro,
worked fine on all my dvd playes, but takes along time on my machine.
New way put dvd through dvdshrink ripped mv2 file out of the vobs
did the same with mpegrep to get pan&scan, authored with maestro
the resulting dvd works on my cheap dvd and my panasonic HS2 recorder in letterbox and pan&scan.
On my pioneer 525 which I use for testing it works in letterbox but p&s shows up as widescreen so there is something not quite right.

Any ideas please..:(

This is a wild stab in the dark based on no technical knowledge abot how DVD players read content, but perhaps the pioneer wants the video stream to be flagged at 4:3 - is it?

Scenarist for example when authoring requires the video stream to be flagged as 4:3 if you want pan and scan.

Thanks for your help Matthew managed to fix it late last night.
Used Restream to put on the pan&scan flag instead off mpegrep and
this worked so restream seems to do a better job, it makes a new stream with the flag in place but Mpegrep does not and what ever the length of film it always says 1500 frames processed, but I have never
had any problems before.
