Right now I use a deinterlacer to deinterlace 60i to 60p (bobmatcher). The current script I use to convert 59.94p to 29.97p is:
Decimate(2)
Is this the best method?

Is that the best method from converting:
60 progressive frames >>> 30 progressive frames?
SelectEven()
So basically Decimate(2) and SelectEven() are interchangable, except SelectEven() is faster?

Whats your purpose? I do think you mix up some subjects ;-)
Dont you want to get 23.976 progressive frames out of 29.97 interlaced frames? Ist that what you want?

No... I have deinterlaced my source by using a 59.94i (aka 29.97) deinterlacer. My input is a 60i source and deinterlacing it gives me 59.94p (progressive frames). And I do not want 59.94p, I want to go back to 29.97 but in progressive frames (29.97p).

then, why not using a simple traditional deinterlacer like tomsmocomp or kerneldeint?!?
a simple tradtional deinterlacer will create 30 out of 60i
bobmatcher isn't suited for true interlaced video. it is thought for blended and telecined clip, also it has been replaced be intellibob() several months ago.

Okay remember this maybe a newbie question... but..
I searched and found your intellibob. I am deinterlacing a 60i NTSC DV interlaced source. I should not use intellibob to do this then?
PS- I do want an output of 60p (not specifically for this one, but a series of other functions I created that use 60p).

uhm, no intellibob is primarily intended being used with standards converted video.
for true interlaced video (like DV-footage is) use kerneldeint or tomsmocomp for 30p output and
kernelbob() or tmcbob() or 60p output.
but what do you want now?
30p or 60p ?
some post aerlier you asked for 30p and now you're asking for 60p ?!?
what do you want? decide!

lol... I want exactly what I said I want...
60p, but then reduce it to 30p. So I DO want 60p, yet I would like the ability to convert it to 30p.

simple answer - if you want both 30p and 60p, then encode 2 versions and keep your original source.

Sorry guys I forgot to tell ya I solved it, just by deinterlacing it via bobbing to 60p then from 60p I add the line:
selectevery(4,1,2)
...That's it..
This is the reason why I wanted to keep my coding 60p first then convert it to 30p. Because I created a GUI for one of my clients and all he has to do is select the options like Speed of video, FPS, etc... And if I keep the video in 60p and he wants 50% slow motion, there we go take 59.94p and AssumeFPS(29.97).

are you sure, you want to use an alone standing
selectevery(4,1,2) ?
sure, it gives 30p, but it will JERK like HELL.
I think you catched 4,1,2 from some other threads. But the 4,1,2 thing is only valid if surrounded by separatefields() and weave()
produceing the line:
separatefields().selectevery(4,1,2).weave()
which means, it makes 60i out of 60p.
its purpose is mainly to reinterlace artificial 60p to 60i again, cause most of our filters are only able to process the video progressive, so we need to fake a progressive video, but the final result needs to be interlaced, thats what the 4,1,2 line is for.
