tmpg and ffdshow

Welcome,
why does the instalation ffdshow isn't enough to use tmpg?
I want convert avi(xvid) to vcd,
why do I have to install xvid-codec to work tmpg?

All my avi(xvid) play with ffdshow, why tmpg doesn't work?

perhaps you should up the directshow priority in the "VFAPI plug-in"-tab (options--->enviromental settings). make sure it is above the AVI VFW compatability reader.

or

go to startmenu ---> ffdshow ---> VFW configuration and enable xvid in the decoder tab. this will only work if you installed the VFW encoder included with ffdshow though.
