i wanted to find out a few things before i begin to author. my pictures are in .jpg format will they need to be converted to another format to work with an author program? if the author program converts it automatically what format is used? if .jpg format does work do i need to convert the size to 720x480?

thank you

You can add .jpg still pictures to your authoring project, most systems will resize/crop them to your desired project settings (720x480)= NTSC Full D1.

YouŽd better resize them prior to import, that way they will not be distorted by your authoring system.

Surely you find answers in this forum. I work with scenarist so I donŽt really need anything else:)

Try DVDRemake. Reauthoring is always a solution, a slide show is quite easy to author with any tool.

a quick way to make VOB's out of pictures is to use DVDShrink's reauthor and replace feature :). You just select a still menu and replace it with your image :)

so I guess in your case you could 'replace' any picture you want with another one using Full Disk as it still plays back the original playtime so everything would be the same ;). If you want to change the length of a picture being displayed then you would use Ifoedit and locate that cell and change the time

you can also replace any cell in DRM but it only accepts VOB's, so I would normally use DVDShrink to create the VOB from an image first. You can also change the playback time for the still in DRM which comes in handy :)
