I personally use RecordnowMax 4.5 This is/was a very popular program and it works great. In fact, most said it worked better than Nero 5.0; however, since Nero 6.0 came out, I think it's a toss up. Nero 6 is a huge improvement over Nero 5. I'm just so used to RecordnowMax,that I don't want to change (If it aint' broke, don't try to fix it). I hear that RecordnowMax won't recognize some of the new burners (the psx engine updates don't work).

Lately, what I have been doing to back up my movies is using dvdshrink and dvddecrypter together. Shrink has a feature that would enable dvd decrypter to burn you disc after the re-encode and stuff is done. You truly cannot beat that combination. You insert a blank disc in your burner and when you come back, it's all done. Good luck.

i personally use dvd shrink and nero 6.3, a dvd done within 1 hour how can you beat that. a two step process insert dvd to copy start dvd shrink then burn with nero. 1 hour later PERFECT copy.

p.s. avoid freezing use good media....

Nero is far too expensive for Killing DVD+R DL discs for 14 Euro each (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/CDF/Dual_Layer_Writing/)

I use DVD Shrink to rip and compress to the hard drive, then Nero 6.3 to make a DVD Video Disk. Over 150 movies in the past seven months. I have thought about changing to something new but why fix something thats not broke. I like to have just the main movie in English and nothing else. Skip the menus and extras or other languages.

What is exactly is the reason for using PAYWARE (Nero) if FREEWARE (mkisofs or, based on that, ImgTool Classic) can do the same job better (i.e. the discs work on more players) and cheaper?

When ripping discs with CloneDVD (I need at least german, english and french audio, if those are present on the source discs) and then burning them, the following happens:
- burning files with CloneDVD: Panasonic RV32 reports Error 499
- making image with mkisofs and burning with cdrecord/dvddecrypter: Pansonic RV32 plays disc without problem
- burning files with Nero 5.5: Panasonic RV32 reports Error 499
- with Nero 6: didn't try, Nero has killed enough discs for me. I'm only using working software now!

Discs were always Taiyo Yuden +R with Bitsetting or Verbatim -R. So no crap-disc-error could occur. Especially, the mkisofs-image works on both disc types, so the Nero 5.5 and CloneDVD are b0rked.
