What is the luminance's setting in CCE for DV source?

16 to 255?

0 to 255?

Short answer 0-255


Long answer:

I don't really remember what those mean in CCE. Here is the general story. RGB source can be stored with black set to 0 or black set to 16. When CCE asks your decompression codec for a frame, it may get a YCbCr frame, or an RGB frame. If it Gets an RGB frame, it needs to convert it to YCbCr for MPEG. When it converts, it needs to know if you have black set to 0 or black set to 16. Now, it is my understanding that many DV codecs only output RGB. Since DV is internally YCbCr, your guess is as good as mine as to if black is set to 0 or 16 when they output. My guess is 0 because this is the PC standard and people make a stink about the fact that MJPEG outputs 16 black if you ask it for RGB, and I have not heard the same stink about DV.

BTW: If your codec outs YCbCr to CCE, those settings should not do a thing.

You can test this all out but you need some DV source with a known color setting. Also, what the CCE settings do is in the CCE manual, which you can download from their site. Sometimes these settings are backwards to what makes sense, so you have to read carefully.
